shortness of breath with neurological stmptoms

My husband experienced numbness in the arms, hands and inner thighs and severe muscle pain after recovering from fever and mild muscle aches. He was put on prednisone for 2 weeks. While on the prednisone he became short of breath.  Pulse ox was 93% at rest.  He is no longer on prednisone and still is short of breath.  His neurologist is aware.  He ordered a chest xray which we have not gotten the results of yet and has a spinal tap scheduled.  What test should be done to assess his breathing difficulties? Is his respiratory problems related to the nuerological symptoms?  MRI's showed some brain inflamation (inflammation). Lab work was normal.  He did test positive for Epstein barr. Thanks for any info.
