shortness of breath

about 5 monthes ago , i had a panic attack. I experienced shortness of breath. I went to ER, but they released me after Ekg,  air blow test, and blood work. Bascially they said i have nothing wrong.

after that i keeping on experience with shortness of breath which is on and off.

I went to my family doctor, he did a holter montior for me for 24 hours, 2d echo, EKG, blood test, and a chest x ray. All come back normal. He determined there is nothing wrong with me,but still i feel the shortness of breath until now.  However, my family doctor refuse to do furthur test for me, and won't refer me to a specialist.

I just want to ask do i have enough tests done to get the conclusion that i have no physical problem which cause shortness of breath? Should i keeping on checking out what is truely wrong with me? could you tell me if i missed some important test?

thank you very much

You should have complete pulmonary function tests (PFTs) performed, a determination of your blood oxygen level by pulse oximetry and you should be tested for the diagnosis of pulmonary emboli, which are recurrent blood clots to the lungs.

If all is then negative, you may have a panic disorder.  This is a treatable condition.  If your doctor is either unable or unwilling to treat you for panic attacks, you should request referral to another physician who will.  Such treatment is usually prescribed by internal medicine specialists and psychiatrists.
