sinus drainage

by stirstick, Jun 11, 2009 02:00PM
My husband has forceful sinus drainage (clear mucus) about 10-15 minutes after he wakes up, EVERY DAY.  It turns on like a spigot and keeps pouring out of his soft palate, for 20 minutes straight he is spitting out mucus and choking. He is left feeling weak and nauseous for most of the morning. This has been going on for over 2 years and has cost him a normal life.  He can't work a regular job, is very depressed, can't even eat breakfast. We don't have insurance, so the only treatment he has had is some antibiotics which seemed to help short term, and allergy scripts (now he just takes zyrtec every day which seems to keep the episodes down to the 20 minutes).  And also he has had x-rays and they show no sinusitis or infected caverns eaten into the bone.  We need help, but obviously can't afford it.  Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

When this all first started happening, he lost a lot of weight and we were freaking out a bit, then he went on the antibiotics again (i think like a z-pack or something like that) and it did help.  Knocked the duration and intensity down greatly, but did not stop.  His weight loss stopped and his color returned, but so did the half hour or 20 minute sessions of spitting out a deluge of sinus drainage.  But he is very depressed still, and I don't how he's going to keep going like this... every day, for the rest of his life?  There is one thing he just saw a clip on the t.v. about denture cream causing some kind of allergic reaction because of excessive zinc, but I don't know if that would cause his symptoms (yes he wears dentures and uses fixodent free denture paste).  Thank you again (anyone and everyone) for any and all help rendered.  Please and Thank You!!
