sleep apnea

Good afternoon.
My 12 year old daughter has sleep apnea,she has been monitored on a number of occasions and is currently awaiting a overnight hospital stay to complete a sleep study,The last time she was monitored at home I was unable to sleep everytime i went into her bedroom the oxygen figures were lite up in red and flashing,her levels kept droping to 82-84,can you please tell me if this is low,as the hospital just state she has sleep apnea but i am not aware of what the levels should be,regards karen mceneaney

Yes they are low...normal values are between 95-100. Often with apnea, O2 levels drop. I am glad that your daughter is going for the full study. The sleep study will monitor her O2 sats as well as how many times she is apneic and for how long, her EKG to see if her heart is affected when she drops low, snoring episodes, EEG (brain waves), leg movements etc...The doctor will get a good picture as to what is going on while she sleeps.
