I have had derealization disorder for 4 years. In the past 1 1/2 years it has been severe and disabling, and tormenting. I really don't have the autonomic hyperactivity associated with panic attacks, just moderate to severe derealization all the time. I didn't even know what I had until a psychologist diagnosed my symptoms last year. But they don't know why I have it or whats causing it because I don't fit any profile they can see from their perspective. So here is why I'm asking you, a Lung doctor about this. It basically feels like I'm breathing nitrous oxide, the gas the dentist will give you. A dissociative feeling just like the gas.....Funny enough, when I had my lung function tests due to my perceived reduced lung capacity, one of the gasses (I don't know which one) when I breathed it in, my derealization VANISHED COMPLETELY for about 20 seconds...right when I breathed in one of the gasses from the lung testing machine! I totally did not exact that to happen, but it did!
