testing needed to check out respiratory disorder

Was driving a car and suddenly couldn't exhale, had deep inhaling bouts and just couldn't breathe back, what should I do if that happens again? Tried to tap my chest and back but got anxious. Didn't even know whether to leave my car in the middle of the road or what not. What is the first aid treatment that I can do to myself?
