thick fowl tasting smelling mucus

I have been waking up with a thick mucus not coughing, no head congestion, I am not sure if it smells badly or that I am tasting it, but I am not sure what to do. I sometimes have a hard time swallowing. I do not smoke never had or drink. I do drink a couple of ice teas daily. What do you suggest?
