throat question again

by Missy4, Mar 22, 2004 12:00AM
I've been on here before regarding my problem.  My throat has been sore for 2 years now, almost daily.  I have been to the ent numerous times and will be going again this month.  I do have tonsil stones in my right tonsil which is where the majority of the pain manifests itself.  My left tonsil feels swollen occasionally and hurts at times too.  My ent doesn't want to remove the tonsils until I can't stand it anymore.  I'm getting to that point.  I am still worried about throat cancer.  I'm 33 and just think "this pain has to be coming from somewhere".  The ent has never mentioned reflux, and I don't have heartburn, but my voice feels raspy to me.  I sneeze quit a bit and always sound nasal.  Sometimes my ear will hurt as well as my neck.  Probably from poking at my neck.  Would throat cancer be visible at the 2 year point?  Does anyone have any other ideas on what could be causing this.  My ent doesn't really know.  He said it could be from the tonsil stones.  At this point I can't really get a second opinion, all the ent docs work together.
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

Without examining your throat, it is difficult to give you much more insight into the problem.  I would suggest speaking to your ENT regarding your concerns about throat cancer.  The only way to make this diagnosis is to perform a biopsy.  Having these symptoms for 2 years warrants a further evaluation of the problem.  Only your ENT or another doctor in the group can do this.

The ent told me that there is no tissue to biopsy.  He says nothing looks at all sinister that he would biopsy.  I thank you for your response, but have you heard of something like this before.  He has done the scope (throught the nose to the throat 3 times in the past), neck ct, neck x-ray.  Nothing.
Thank you for your time.
