tracheamalasia and use of codiene

by dinman08, Oct 02, 2008 02:07PM
My son just came home from the hospital after having a problem with his o2 sats dropping.  He had to be transfered from the surgical center to the Hospital peds unit to have Ped RN with acute resp experience available  The doctor gave us a prescription for apap/codeine elixer to take for pain.  I read that codeine relaxes smooth muscles and that will cause his trachia to soften possible to the point of collaping.  Has anyone used codeine before without problem.
I am leary aabout giving it!!!  Thanks....Darlene
