trouble breathing

by sicnarf613, Sep 10, 2007 07:20PM
Im 19 years old and about five days ago, I had a sudden chest attack where i felt as though my left side was squeezing and my fingers and arms were experiencing pins and needles. I was short of breath and i was sweating. This lasted for several minutes. The next day, the shortness of breath got worse, and i felt an acute pain in my chest, around the area of the heart.  My arms and legs were in pins and needles once again, and then my face started to experience the same pain.  Ever since then, Ive been having this chronic shortness of breath like someone is sitting on my chest.  I dont seem to have a problem in the morning, but later in the day the problem gets worse (especially at night). I dont know if im experiencing the long term effects of an anxiety attack, or if i really do have a problem.

I don't want to panic you but all of that sounds like classic heart attack symptoms. Being 19 that would be SO rare and is unlikely but you really should see a doctor asap just to get checked out. It could be nothing more than anxiety but it is important to see a doctor soon. Early August I was experiencing chest and arm discomfort, dizziness, fatigue and massive shortness of breath and I was convinced I was having a heart attack (I'm 23) I went to 2 emergency rooms in 2 days and neither found anything wrong with me. I'm still worried that they missed something but I dont have insurance and am working on that right now and as soon as I do, I'm getting right to a GP to have more tests done. I am glad I went to the ER though because they put me a little more at ease. Please get yourself to a doctor or the ER as soon as you can just to be on the safe side. You also may want to post this question on the heart forum and see what they have to say over there.
