what else can I do?

by aladysam, Apr 28, 2008 06:23PM
I have had the gurgling/phlegmy/coughing problem for over a year now, possibly 18 months or so.  It is always the same. Stuffy nose, swollen nasal passages, minor if any discomfort of nasal passages; however, when the weather changes, this area is sensitive and sore...pressured.  I, too, wake up at night coughing with phlegm, thick and it is sometimes clear, sometimes clear with yellow spots, sometimes pink spots.  The doctor is stuck on asthma, but what he gives me doesn't help without prednisone included in the treatment.  Sometimes, at the end of the treatment, when I blow my nose, thick gooey greenish-yellow discharg is in the tissue.  I am opposed to consuming medications all the time.  I think there is a cure out there somewhere, if I can just find it.  I have just been through a treatment of doxycyclene, nasal sprays, albuterol, codeine cough syrup for night and tessalon for days.  These things do not seem to work unless the prednisone is part of the program.  Also, I get the funny taste after coughing as well.

I have had chest ct's, xrays, but nothing different from one to the next.  I, too wake up at night to cough and spit.  It is discusting that with all the medical knowledge out there that they cannot seem to figure out what is wrong,  My doctor seems to be stuck on the asthma theme, but there are periods between rounds of medications that I am fine for a week or two.  Then back it comes.

I am starting to search outside the box.  I have even delved into the Cayce readings and I am going to see a Chiropractor or Osteopath to try that.  Seems that the nerves in the spine that control lungs, are located in the upper back just below the neck bones.  I'll let you know if adjustment has any positive effect.  I did notice that during one of my bouts, reflexology of the hands seemed to help; although I cannot be certain if it was the reflexology or the prednisone that helped the most.

What else can I do to get rid of this?  It hangs on and doesn't seem to be affected enough by meds to go away permanently.
