Healing Process

Dear Doctor,
I have just completed an external rhinoseptoplasty and I am concerned that swelling is going down in some places as oppossed to other areas. My nose looks like it is dented in some parts where the swelling is going down. Is this normal? My nose looks asymmetrical and the nostrils are not even. Could this be due to the swelling? Many thanks for your assistance.

Dear findjohnny,

Since you just had an external rhinoplasty, I would recommend that you ask the doctor these questions.  This is because a lot of physicians don’t like when other doctors give advice on a fresh rhinoplasty.

Usually, the nose can look asymmetric following surgery, which is usually due to swelling.  You have to give it at least three to four months before you can judge your nose.

I hope that helps and good luck to you.

Dr. Nassif
