Chlamydia or Gonorrhea?

About a week ago, I started having burning and pain when I peed, so I went to the doctor suspecting a UTI. They told me that I did not have sufficent nitrates in my urine to say it was a UTI so they gave me a pap and told me they thought it was either Chlamydia or Gonorrhea.

They perscribed a single dose of 500mg Cipro and 4 250mg (1000mg) of Azithromycin (I could be spelling that wrong). I took the Cipro yesterday around 5pm and the Azithromycin around 2am and I haven't noticed any improvement. If anything, I've noticed an INCREASE in discharge and pain when I urinate. They sent samples off to the lab but it won't be back for a few days.

From what I've been reading, most people notice an improvement in symptoms in about 24 hours. How long should I wait for my symptoms to improve before I go back to the doctor?

Cool.  Normally the advice is to avoid sex totally, but I am sure there are differing opinions on it.

He took all four at once yes.

And we both got the 250mg pills.

And we spoke to our doc, and he said that sex was ok as long as we used  comdoms. Believe me, I made sure first. :)

Is he taking all 4 of those pills at once?  He should.

And what dose of azithromycin did you get?

And you really really need to avoid sex, even with condoms.  Condoms break, come off, etc., and you could end up re-infected.  Wait at least 7 days from when your bf takes his treatment.

Just an update for anyone who reads the thread...it's day 3 after the Cipro and Azithromycin and the discomfort after peeing has gone down substantially. It's a lot easier. And sex (with condoms :) ) is only painful when you go to the bathroom afterward.

And my tests came back today. It was a bad case of Chlamydia.

Also, my boyfriend went and got tested today just to be safe. For all guys...The test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea in a guy is NOOOO fun...they stuck a very long q-tip up his pee pee and swirled it around a bit. He said it's less painful than he thought it would be, but more than just discomfort. He was put on the 4x 250mg Azithromycin for Chlamydia.

That's alright. Thanks so much for the advice. My boyfriend is going tomorrow to get his "junk" checked out since my downstairs has become defective, so I'll talk to the doctor then. Thanks again!

No, that's not normal.  You should call your doctor for that one.  Sorry I missed that one the first time around.

Oh, ok. I was just a little worried. Is it normal for it to get worse before it gets better?

Actually, it can be a few days to see marked improvement.
