Chlamydia

My husband & I were in Atlanta a month ago and he was complaining about having a strong urge to pee and burning.  I told him that it probably was a UTI and to go see about it when we got home.
He was tested and it came back that he had urethritis. (a form of an UTI; that's what the DR told him). The Dr. gave him some antibiotics and azithromycin ( 1 dose).

We had sex 3 days later because we thought that it was just a UTI. the following day, he gets a call from DR. and tells him that his labs came back and  he had Chlamydia! needless to say i was furious! Being that we had sex the night before, i contacted my GYN and told him about it and he prescribed me doxcycline (2 a day for 7 days).  My husband returned to his DR. and advised him that he may have been reinfected.  they had to test him again and wait another week to get his results back. the results came back positive for chlamydia and they gave him another 1 dose of azithromycin.

He took the 1 dose of azithromycin on 9/19/07. My husband is concerned about his medication being strong enough because he was not prescribed the same medication as myself. I contacted several pharmacists and asked them about it and they said that both medications were the same it's just that the other was only one dosage.  He feels that since it was only one dose that it will not treat all of the disease.  He is now complaining of a slight sting when he urinates ( not on a daily basis)discharge ( its clear not milky) and a slight pain in his pelvis.  should he be retested? As for me, i'm fine.

To add to unluckiestsoul, the CDC recommends both azythromycin and doxycycline for the treatment of NGU, which includes Chlamydia and other bacterial that cause urethritis.  The advantage of zithromax is that you only take 1000mg one time, as opposed to doxycycline, which you take 2x a day for 7 days.  NEvertheless, you should not engage in sexual activity for at least 7 days starting from the day you take the medication.  They both are effective against chlamydia, and there's some evidence that azythromycin may be more effective against mycoplasma genitalium, which is another bacteria that can cause urethritis.

Btw, you don't say how the chlamydia came into the relationship.

you both should refrain from sex until the coast is clear like a month or so because reinfection is common and can be a real headache. Both medications are effective but take time to start clearing up the infection. Im at work so I dont have to much time to get into detail, but limit drinking and no sex of any kind and take the meds............there both good.
