Cocerned about infection

I was having a irritating discomfort in the tip of my penis so on 2/17/09 I went to the health department and got checked for chlamydia and gonorrhea through an urine specimen and syphilis through the blood, on 2/24/09 I got those results and they were all negative but I was still having this problem so on 3/1/09 I went to the emergency room to get another urine specimen done to check for a UTI the doctor said they couldn't see anything nor a STD but said maybe something was there that wasn't showing up like trichomonas or urethiritis so he gave me four 250mg azithromycin to take that day which only gave me runny watery bowels and four 500mg metronidazol to take on 3/2/09 both in one time doses and could take tylenol and ibuprofen for pain. The first few days I had to urinate a lot but it is now 3/6/09 and I'm just now starting to feel some relief of my symptoms but there still there. How long if I am infected does it take to completely heal or could my tests been right when they came back negative and this is something else. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

My Dr. told me some infections go straight to the prostate.  Why it took so long is because it has to be destroyed from the prostate.  So you might need to take more meds of lesser doses for another week or so.  That might also be why you are so sexually excited.  The strange thing about an STD is that it does that to people so it can find another host and continue to live on.

You are lucky you got diagnosed.  If you go back for another swab, masturbate before you go, that way the prostate fluid will still be in your urethra....

I don't know.  :(   Everyone is different.  I know - lame answer, but that's the best anyone can tell you.

I'm glad you are finally feeling better though.

Could be.  You might not ever really know at this point.

I don't know if it would cause a UTI, but a reaction to a condom can cause inflammation and therefore give you similar symptoms.

Feel better,

i went to target and bought these tablets called AZO standard i know they aren't a cure but taking them eased my symptoms somewhat so maybe my problem all along was an UTI??? also can certain kinds of condoms that you might be allergic to cause an UTI?

No, you need an antibiotic.  There has to be a dept within the health dept that can see you and treat you.  Call them and ask.

so what kind of treatment do they give for an UTI? can it be treated over the counter? because the health department don't test or treat for that and I don't have insurance :-(

Yes, it could be.  I recently had a UTI, and got tested 3 days after starting an antibiotic for something else.  They found trace amounts of bacteria, and said if I hadn't been on the antibiotic, they would have had a better chance to find more, but treated me anyway based on symptoms.

the health department told me that since my chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis tests all came back negative that the sensation could be from an UTI but when I was checked for one the ER doctor said he couldn't see anything could it be because antibiotics were in my system at that time?

That I don't know, and you need to talk to your doctor about the tender and hard spots.

Hydrocortisone can be used for itching, but with your other symptoms, I wouldn't recommend using anything until you get the okay from the doc.

yes it does make sense. but why does my penis feel tender and hard in certain spots under the head? I also heard the irritating itch at the tip can be relieved with hydrocortisone cream? Is that true? Sounds like it might make it worse?

Anxiety heightens awareness, so you might be paying a lot more attention to your penis, and it also heightens sensations, so what you are feeling might be normal, but your anxiety is making it seem more than it is.

Does that make sense?

how could anxiety have anything to do with it?

I don't know - anxiety maybe?

Check it out with your doctor if you want, but you've been properly medicated.
