Cold Sores

Guys...I'd love a consensus on this question -

Can you get a cold sore from kissing someone when there are no active sores present or visable on their lips?

Well, is there any way to tell? If this was a cold sore, would it not have formed a blister by this point? it's unchanged for the past 24 hours.

it could be many things from a bump, a blocked oil gland, infection, cold sore, allergic reaction etc.

Well, I have had a red bump on my upper lip...right in the middle. I never experienced any tingling, burning, etc. Just went to the mirror yesterday and noticed this red mark. It's not even really a bump. I don't see any signs of a blister forming...it's been unchanged since I noticed it yesterday. Does this sound like it could be a cold sore forming? I have never had one before, and I had been previously tested with HerpeSelect, and I was negative for both types.

Not at all but indeed just avoiding contact whenever someone has an active cold sore does help quite a bit.

Would you say that getting a cold sore while there is nothing visable is unlikely?

yes you can .   between obvious cold sores  and with asymptomatic shedding ( even in folks who can't recall ever getting a cold sore ) the virus is active about 18% of days.
