Confused - What is my partner's risk?
I contracted HSV (not sure which strain) genitally 20 years ago, and aside from the initial outbreak have never again seen it there. However, I have had oral outbreaks every .5 to 1.5 years since then.
Through an awful miscommunication regarding our statuses, I ended up kissing my new partner on several occasions, and recently received unprotected oral sex from her one time. To her knowledge she hadn't had either strain - now we're both very worried that she may have contracted it from me.
Recently I had a blood test for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 using a "real-time (PCR) amplification of the HSV glycoprotein B gene", and was surprised that the results for both strains were negative.
Which strain(s) of HSV am I likely to have, given the nature of my outbreaks (once genitally and recurring orally)? Is there a more conclusive test than the one above, considering that it's apparently wrong about at least one strain?
What are the odds that she has contracted either strain from me? Is there any hope in light of the negative test results?
How soon can we reliably determine whether my partner contracted either strain orally? What is the best way to do this?
