Found Valtrex in wife's purse

So I wasn't going through her purse, I went in there to grab a stick of gum and notice 8 white pills. I looked up what they were and found out they were valtrex. When I confronted her about it, she said that they were prescribed to her because she had gotten Juvederm injections in her mouth at work (she works at a dermatology office). I thought that was odd but took her word for it. A few months later, she asked me to grab something out of her purse and I noticed the same pill in there again. Once again I confronted her about it and asked her why she still had them (in a different purse than before) because she hadn't gotten the injections in months. She then tells me that they are a friends at work and she got the prescription filled in her name because we have full medical coverage and it wouldn't cost anything for her friend. I don't believe her at all. I mean if they WERE your friends why would you be holding them in your purse. So, my question is; is it normal for a dermatologist to prescribe Valtrex for these lip injections. She said it's so you won't break out after the injections. I'm not the expert so I'm hoping someone could shed some light. Thanks!

no, her taking valtrex wouldn't affect her blood test enough to cause a false negative for hsv2. The tests can't pick up hsv1 as well as they do hsv2 though.

Wish I had some useful advice for you but I know if I was in your shoes, I'd be suspicious too.

Yes, i agree with you. It's defiantly a red flag in my eyes as well. It doesn't help that she gets defensive about it the time I have found them and confronted her about it. She pulls the whole "this is my reasoning for having these pills" and if I don't believe her I'm in the wrong because shes my spouse. I have never noticed any cold sores on her before and we've been together 8 years. I have been doing some research though, and found that most people will kind of feel like a tingle before they actually get the cold sore and if they take the valtrex right away it will work so fast that it will get rid of the sore before it even is visible. My main concern is the worse case scenario that she possibly cheated and got gentile herpes. It's been bugging me for some time now. I really just want her to go get tested so we can clear all this up once and for all. BUT, i've heard that if your taking valtrex at the time of a STD test it can mask the test to show that your negative for herpes. I have no clue if this is true or not.

if your wife has a history of cold sores, any injections in the lip could trigger a recurrence. Personally I have no idea why your wife would hesitate to disclose a history of cold sores when initially confronted about the pills.

Obviously her reaction is throwing up a red flag for you and rightfully so. First off, it's illegal to give a prescribed medication to someone else. She is committing insurance fraud if what she says is what is really do. Secondly, you've found these twice now - if they were for a friend, why wouldn't it be a whole bottle that she handed to her friend ( or at the very least put in a different container without her name on and gave to them ).
