Husband Has a Cold sore

My husband gets cold sores often and they get pretty bad and are always on his lip. He just got over one bad case. He said it was all healed and gone so he gave me oral sex as foreplay ...the very next afternoon he developed another cold sore, I am scared he put me at risk of developing a sore on my genitals now. What are the chances of me getting an outbreak now? He has always been very careful but I feel this was a very close call and since it has only been a couple days since that happened, I am worried.

And oh, BTW, even though type 1 simplex can be passed to the genitals, its not quite as easy to do that than type 2. So some consolation there. However, if he has it, and you're married, I'd bet a lot of money you're already infected. That's something married folks just have to deal with when it comes to herpes. Trying to not get infected with type 1 is really difficult. Its in nearly 80% of the entire population. But perhaps your immune system is better at handling it.

Herpes Simplex 1 can be transmitted to the genitals if an active sore is present. He can even potentially transmit them to you without an active sore if he's virally "shedding". (Which happens on and off throughout the year). As inconvenient as this may seem, you're going to be ok. Personally, I would suggest you and your husband start regularly consuming L-Lysine supplements and cut back on your intake of foods with L-Arginine. (nuts, beer, red meat, peas, and many more). Secondly for your husband I would suggest he check out products from a company call "Forces of Nature". They have various oils he can put on his lips that help keep outbreaks from happening as well. This stuff is great. I used it all the time. Finally, you may want to consider getting on a regular prescription of Famvir or Valtrex. This combination of supplements and prescription products keeps my outbreaks down to one or two outbreaks every six months or even less.
