I think I have a terminal std. I'm very confused. I hope you can help.

I got very sick 2 weeks after having sex.  I'm still sick.  I tested negative for hiv out to 12 weeks.  I tested negative for hep b c at 5 weeks.  I'm so concerned.  I'm convinced I'm hiv positive but the doctors and experts say that hiv is not my problem after all of these symptoms........

I've had so many symptoms after 2 weeks of my risky exposure. receptive m2m anal sex.  It started with extreme tiredness.  followed by swollen groin that was in pain and rash on my anus that hurt me.  I had burning while urinating for one day and the rash on my anus disappeared and so did the swollen groin nodes.  I started getting chills this whole time.  After the rash was gone I got severe lower abdominal pain and felt all of these twitches in my body.  I had zero appetite.  After this shock to my body, I ended up getting pains in my knees and wrists.  I felt pain going up and down my arms and legs.  After a week or 2 of having knee and wrist pain, I developed joint pain in every part of my body.  Some days I would feel it more in my shoulders, others I would feel it more in my knees.  Until now, I suffering from the aches and pains.  I had a sore throat for a few days.  I had the runs for a few days.  The lower abdominal pain keeps getting worse and worse and more persistent.  My vision has become more blurred and I've developed floaters.  It's like I need to wear shades when I go outside.  My appetite has changed. I lost weight, gained weight and lost it again.  My muscles feel hot all the time.  The palms of my hands have recently started turning red when I do any kind of movement for a few minutes.  It's like blood rushes to them and it comes and goes.  I get rashes around my wrists and knuckles.  and hives all over my body that come and go constantly.  I feel eeire around my groin area and under arms as well.  It's like a pulling feeling.  It's like I need to sleep 3 times a day and I still end up feeling tired.  I've also been getting cold sores on my lips that keep coming and going.

All of these hiv tests and still nothing.  The hep tests at 5 weeks, nothing.  The full std panel at 5 weeks and nothing.  I don't know of hep b can cause symptoms 2 weeks after exposure but I am very concerned that I now have a terminal illness that is not being figured out.  With all of this talk about the window period, I've labeled myself a positive.  People on this site are telling me that hiv is not my problem but how can that be?  Or my question is what STD/STI'S can cause such terror?

Can anyone help?  greatly appreciate it for life.

I don't know why you are focused on an std - your tests are negative.

Sorry about the hep tests - I forgot you had liver testing.  Your doc is right - you would have had some elevated levels on that.

I can't imagine how frustrating it is, but you are doing well to just try and be patient.  Good luck with a GI.

nooo.  The thing is that no doc wants to do anything if there is no sign of infection in my blood or urine.  I just got home from the hospital again.  I'm going to make an appointment to see an infectious disease specialist and tell them him/her everything.  For now, I just have to be patient.  The doc at the hospital told me that if I had any liver problems or hepatitis than the liver enzymes would have been elevated.  He thinks that I'm under a lot of stress.

I still think that everything points to HIV.  It's obvious to me but if the experts and doctors say that 3 months is really conclusive and that 6 weeks is 98% accurate then I don't know what my problem is.

I thought it might be gonorrhea  but 3 tests came back negative.

I thought it was Hepatitis b but my liver seems to be fine in the blood tests.

I've had over 15 symptoms in the past 3 months.  I had a high risk.  Now I'm being told that I have to test for aids at 6 months and 12 months.

I guess I have to suffer the thought of it for a whole year.

I'm not even scared anymore.  I just need a diagnosis of something.

I saw an internal medicine doctor and he want to do the same blood tests aas the hospital did. he perscribed tests for hep and hiv.  Same thing as going to the std clinic or the er.

A gastroenterologist sounds like a good idea.  I'm freaking out.

You might want to follow up on the heps.

Hep B can take 9 weeks to show up, and hep C can take 6 months (though I don't know if you are at risk for that, as hcv is only in blood).

Have you asked to be referred to an internist or gastroenterologist?

so i was negative for mono at 3 months.  negative for hiv at 3 months.  negative for all the heps at 5 weeks.

this is the worst thing ever.  I still have tons of eye floaters.  feeling of weakness and pain in my bones.  Now I'm having chronic pain in my spleen and liver area.  Pain in my lower abs/bladder.  I think I'm going to die soon if I don't get some kind of diagnosis.  The pains use to come and go and now they are permanent.  I need over 10 hours of sleep so that I can feel normal for at least an hour.  I think the pain is just going to get worse.

Every time I go to the hospital they give me a wbc test and a liver test and send me home.

Should I request any specific testing?  These doctors don't suggest anything unless you demand it.  I need a diagnosis.

Actually, LGV might not be a bad idea.  Its very rare, but you might test for that, especially if you are in a bigger city like NY, Chicago, LA, etc.

Sorry -

Scurred - 3 months is a definitive result on the HIV test.

Frank -

I found the IIRC, but I didn't find anything on there that said 15%.

According to the CDC - http://www.cdc.gov/NCIDOD/Diseases/hepatitis/c/fact.htm

"HCV can be spread by sex, but this is rare. If you are having sex with more than one steady sex partner, use latex condoms* correctly and every time to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. You should also get vaccinated against hepatitis B."

None of the symptoms you all list are symptoms of HIV or Hep C in the early stages.

It might be a good idea to start working more with your providers to look into other causes.

Hep C is transmitted sexually around 1% of the time.  If no blood was involved, its not something to worry about.

I was talking about Hep B when I said 9 weeks.  http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/b/faqb.htm

Hep C can take up to 6 months, though many will test positive before then.

They did some kind of test for my liver and another test for my white blood count.  they told me that all was fine.  The ER sent me home.  They did a test for mono and I haven't gotten results yet.

Hep C can be transmitted sexually, though it is the minority route of infection. The ticketI got from the GUM clinic said 6m is the window for antibody testing

Oh and the window period for hep b is 9 weeks.  Have they done any liver testing?

Hep C is almost never transmitted sexually.

Have either of you tested for mono?  Had any other testing - blood counts, etc?
