Need to take antibiotics if partner is diagnosed with NGU?

hk5
I got a test for std's and full pap (I'm a 20 yr old female.)  STD's came back all negative but was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis.  My boyfriend also was tested and came back with Non-gonococcal urethritis, results on Chlamydia will be back on Friday.  They prescribed him Doxycycline for the NGU and advised me to take it as well.

I'm very sensitive to antibiotics and always have a bad reaction so I'm wondering if it's absolutely necessary for me to take the Doxycycline if they didn't find any signs of that in my test results and I tested negative for Chlamydia.

Thanks.

we don't recommend treating the partner when a male partner has ngu.  definitely ruling out chlamydia is important but otherwise it's not an issue most times for the female partner. I assume you treated your bv properly already?

You both probably want to use condoms for a few weeks just to err on the side of caution.

you don't need any further testing done.

I'm still split on this.  I have the medication at home but don't want to take it unless necessary.  I'm thinking I should either wait and see how his chlamydia test comes back or can they test me for NGU at my doctor's office?

Hi

They advised you to take it because you had BV (non-std related matter), also in case your test ight have missed it.    If I were in your position I would taken the medication.  Your boyfriends' chlamydia result will let you know to what extent you need(ed) it.
