STD? need advice

need some advice... have had some unprotected encounters over the past few years (dumb, I know. and no longer doing it).  about 2 years ago, had unprotected sex with a woman who later told me she had herpes.  about 10 days after that encounter I noticed burning and bumps on scrotum that lasted about 2 days and then gone.  Got tested a couple weeks after that, and everything came back negative.

Then earlier this year (now 2 years later), smalls flesh colored bumps began to appear on tip of penis and some on shaft, some burning/itching around groin and thighs, buttocks... some redness around penis and testicles.  no discharge, no blisters that pop, no painful urination, etc.  (have lasted several months now, on and off severity)

went in this week to stdtest clinic and got full 8 panel test for HSV1/2, HIV, etc, etc... all results came back negative today.

Confused.  seriously thought I had something and test would set it straight... what are the chances test is false negative after potential infection a couple years ago?  I have symptoms of something, but now confused on what it is and what to do... (hope to see a doc, no isurance right now)

any advice appreciated.

either jock itch cream or the jock itch powder, not both.

no idea what testing was done with your 8 panel test. that varies from clinic to clinic. you can call them and ask specifically what you were tested for.

the more you think about this, the more you'll feel going on down yonder.

thx again so much for the advice.

will try a different cream to see if it helps.  and powder.  And try and figure out a way to get to a dermatologist.

no prostate exam.  did take urine during the STD testing along with blood - 8panel test.  it was used for that, so dont think they looked for anything else.  Should I be looking for another test?

need to figure this out... feels like it is getting worse (but could all be in my head).  seems to be all I can think about

actually this doesn't sound at all like genital herpes.  your initial ob wouldn't have went away in 2 days and recurrences wouldn't be with multiple symptoms as you've described.

certainly a 2nd opinion with a dermatologist if these stick around is the best course of action. call your local health department to see what your local low cost options are for one.

also probably not a bad idea to switch to a different jock itch cream and use it 2x/day for a week or two and see if it helps. sometimes it takes finding the right one to work for you. also you might want to try the powders instead of the cream.

did they do a prostate exam on you? did they do any urine testing?

thank so much for your comments/advice.  very much appreciate you taking time our to respond!!

to follow-up, having ruled out HSV and many others with negative blood test, jock itch seemed very possible, so I have treated with creames for last week, unfortuntaely with zero result.

went back to doctor again today and they reviewed my test results, examined me and they said no way it is HSV and GW.  mentioned jock itch as possible, but not likely... creams not working anyway.  they also mentioned Molluscum contagiosum as possibility and told me to see dermatologist (no money for that right now).  symptoms and picutres do not really look like it too

so I am a bit back to square one (altought have ruled out HSV)... and may have to jusy pray and wait this thing out and hope it goes away. (going on many months now!)  any futher comments/suggestions are welcomed.

continuing symptoms:
- very small pimple like bumps on head of penis (one side) and some on foreskin
- general itching and buring in groin area
- pain in buttocks, thighs and back of legs
- sometime buring feeling on tip of penis, redness

If your tests have come back negative, I wouldnt worry.  If this occured over 2 years ago, the chance of a false negative is practically 0.

There have been occasions of mis-diagnoses, but they are extremely rare.  The testing done today is 99.9996% proof.

I wouldnt loose any sleep over this,  however, like shaken2core says, if you still need further affirmation, go to the doctors for more testing.  My advice to you would be to actually see a dermatologist, rather than a sexual health worker.

Hope this helps,

Adam

This does sound like it could be HSV.  Infrequent outbreaks are typical as I can tell you from experience, however it's very painful when it occurs (burning and stinging feeling).  Testing for HVS is variable and not all that great.  The best way to get tested is to see your doctor immediately when you have another outbreak and have him/ her take a sample of any puss or fluid that can be squeezed out of the lesions.  I know this may seem impractical as you may have to wait yrs for another outbreak, so the alternative is to test again, maybe once or twice more, and if all results are negative, then you can be very confident you don't have anything.  Perhaps your latest outbreak was jock itch or something like that, and not HSV at all.  It's impossible to tell without more testing.
