STD Test Too Early?

I had unprotected sex about 2.5 weeks ago. 9 days after the encounter, I went to an STD clinic and had tests. I had been noticing a slight, clear discharge and mild burning. To be honest, I have noticed this on a very slight scale over the past year (received a test about a year ago when I first noticed discharge that was also negative), but the symptoms seemed a bit more pronounced after the encounter.

Anyway, I tested negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis. The discharge persists, and seemed to be a little more than usual this morning.

Also, the discharge today and in the past usually stays within the urethra and causes it to get "stuck" together on occasion. It does not come out on it's own unless I "milk" the urethra.

Is 9 days too early to test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea? A urine test was used.

Thanks!

Negative test results again. Antibiotics seem to be helping with whatever was going on... Thanks!

Yes, the azithromycin would cure NGU.

Gonorrhea is more likely to give a discharge than chlamydia, so maybe that's why he thought gonorrhea.

I guess I should rephrase. Would the dosage given clear up NGU that is not caused by Chlamydia? I'm not sure what the failure rate of urine test is, but I am guessing that testing after a week would typically generate a low false negative result for chlamydia and gonorrhea? I gave a beginning stream sample and waited right at an hour before urination.

Am I correct to assume that I should be most concerned with a non-chlamydial NGU? The doctor had gonorrhea in his mind for some reason. He seemed to think the test could be a false positive because I have a slight discharge, although he was only able to find a slight clear discharge from milking the urethra.

Will the azithromycin clear up NGU other than Chlamydia?

It really just depends.  It seems as if he is treating you for gonorrhea (rocephin), chlamydia (azithromycin) and a urinary tract infection (cipro).  You might want to eat when you take the cipro and azithromycin.

Well... I went to the doctor today and he suspects prostatitis and referred me to a urologist. Before seeing the urologist he wanted to try some different treatments.

He did another urine test and I'm awaiting results. He also gave me:

Rochepin injection (250 mg I think)
1000mg dosage of Azithromycin
500mg Cipro taken 2 times daily for 14 days

I will see how this plays out. Is this likely to take care of whatever is going on?

They can try azithromycin and see if its just NGU first.

Call your local health dept and ask what services they offer for people without insurance.

I may call tomorrow and ask them... I'm thinking the split streams could be due to discharge in the urethra. I have read that this could be caused by prostatitis.

I don't currently have medical insurance and can't afford a bunch of tests. Is there an antibiotic that I could have Planned Parenthood give me to see if there is a response before a full blown visit to the urologist?

I don't know if you would have been tested for NGU - Planned Parenthood differs from location to location.  You can call and ask.

It could be a prostate issue at 26, though its certainly more common in older men.

Should I have a test for NGU? Do you know if this included in PP's routine STD test? If this could be ruled out first, it would be ideal.

As an aside, I'm 26 years old... could my prostate be an issue? I had a vasectomy about 2 years ago... could this have anything to do with any of this?

Split stream urine can be caused by prostate inflammation, and since its been going on 12-18 months, it would seem more likely to be prostate than an std.

You should see your doctor and ask for a prostate exam.

Another note.. Prior to this.. only one sexual partner in the last 2 years or so.

Not sure... I went to Planned Parenthood. Could NGU be recurring for the past 12-18 months? The discharge definitely comes and goes... It's typically clear/sticky, but occasionally will turn to a milky color. The funny thing is I think I noticed this and some split urine occasionally before the encounter?

9 days is fine for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing.  I wonder if you were tested for NGU.  Do you know if they looked for white blood cells or bacteria in your urine?
