Trichomoniasis, Herpes, or .... ?

After some really rough (unprotected) sex with my boyfriend two Mondays ago, I developed a heavy light green/yellow discharge (funny smell - strong), as well as a rash on my genitals the following Thursday/Friday. Unfortunately, I started my period that following Monday so I was unable to go to my OB-GYN until today (over two weeks after the initial exposure to whatever it is I've got).

After my exam, my GYN said she's not sure if I've got Trichomoniasis or Herpes ... it's a 50/50 since whatever it is I've got is clearing up now. So to be safe she's treating me as if I have Trich (meds) but we're running a full STD panel to find out if it's something else. From my research, herpes doesn't have a discharge ... do you think it's possible that 17 days past exposure the Trich culture would not be readable?

I am pretty positive the blood test includes the IgG test mentioned - last time I was negative for multiple STDs, including herpes (I asked specifically if this was included in the panel, and they said yes). As for the infection I apparently have but they have not specifically identified as Trich but suspect could be, they gave me metronidazole.

The type specific herpes igg blood tests look for a specific reaction by our immune systems that shows that we have herpes and have developed igg antibodies against it.  www.herpesdiagnosis.com has terrific info on herpes testing under the how do I get tested for herpes section if you want more reading.

Herpes usually is not accompanied by a yellowish/green discharge.  If you do have herpes - it's more likely that you have more than just herpes going on.  Vaginitis can be caused by many things and hopefully your provider did the proper testing to find out what is going on.  I'm guessing your doctor treated you with flagyl for the possible trich - that should cover most things that could've caused your discharge.

What is a type specific IgG test exactly?

Maybe.  Its tough to say at this point.

You should call and ask if they did the type specific IgG test.  They might have, but many don't.

They did a full STD blood panel - they're doing a scan for anything. So if they didn't see any active trich in the culture today good chance I've got herpes, I guess?

Oh a culture for trich would be fine.  The culture for herpes wouldn't be though.  Did she also do a type specific IgG herpes blood test?
