Unsure possibility of STD/STI

Hi everybody!

I recently (within past two weeks) had unprotected sex with my girlfriend. She was using birth control, so we neglected to use a condom. About a week or so ago I had begun to feel an irritating pain on the tip of my penis, which I figured was due to my underwear rubbing against it, haha. But it didnt make sense that my underwear would be the cause of a burning sensation for a short second when I begin to urinate. This led me to believe that I, at this time, had an increase in masturbation time, and thought that maybe due to excessive rubbing and such my penis became sore. I have not masturbated since it began hurting, however. Now, the pain on the tip of my penis has gone away for the most part, and the tip isn't so inflamed anymore either. This is about 6 days after the start, and about 2 weeks after my sexual experience.

The other day, I did notice a discharge from my penis that was grayish in color. I was unsure if it was a pre-ejaculatory substance because I had just had an erection that came out of the blue. I thought perhaps it was my body just greasing up, getting ready to go. But, I could smell no odor of semen from the substance. This is what led me to believe some sort of bacterial infection.

So, after all the research I have done, I have deduced, and more of hopes, to a form of urethritis. After scanning over symptoms for other STDs/STIs, I have found that my symptoms dont match so well. This is why I'm asking for maybe a professional opinion.

Also to add, I dont have any bumps, lesions, ulcers, or openings or what ever on my skin. I have prostate problems in my family history, and I work at a garden center where dirt does get in my trousers.

Now to turn the whole story upside down. My girlfriend decided to tell me that she has HSV-1. I know that type one can make a living in the genitals. She did not have any lesions or sores on her lips, face or genitals, and she did perform oral sex to me. She had upwards of ten sexual partners prior to our intimacy.

I will be getting tested, but some clinics charge a heck of a fee for the tests, so I want to have a pretty good idea of what I want to be tested for before I spend all the money. Since in my area there are no testing facilities open at the time, I will get the testing done early in the week.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post, and I'm sure any sort of advice/opinions will help.

Dave

Thank you every one for your advice and opinions! I guess the only thing left to do is wait until i can get a test.

Hey there - I read your post and they will probably do a blood test for cert STD's, but when you go there you need to as for STD tests and have them give you a breakdown of what they are testing you for.  You should definitely have them test you for the Herpes Virus as that can only be diagnosed through the blood if there are no visible lesions.  Blood will tell you you are carrying the virus in your body.  They should also check you for Chlamydia which can be cured with antibiotics - I believe a symptom in men is burning when urinating but not sure.  Regardless, the $ is a small price to pay to get the answers you are looking for. and some peace of mind. In the meantime, I would go back to using a condom with your girlfriend or refrain from any sexual activity until you have your answer. I wish you the best of luck!

And if I am incorrect about any information, I apologize beforehand.  This is how I understand it.

No, it doesn't work like that.  Briefly, you can get tested for antibodies if you have had the virus for more than 3 months.  This is a blood test. HSV1 is generally localized to the mouth area and in turn, HSV2 is generally located in the genital region. It is possible to get each one in the other area, though pretty rare, especially for one to get HSV2 orally.  But if you have one in the area, you are not as likely to get the other in the same area.

If you really want more in depth information on herpes, you need to post in that forum in future.  They are dedicated to herpes.  The link is above in blue letters.

I certainly will get tested, but it might be a poor examination since I have no visible lesions. Im also wondering if, since prior to this incident, I did kiss an old girlfriend with a cold sore willingly, and most likely contracted the virus from that...could that lower my risk of being susceptible to genital herpes type one?

The best thing to do is get tested to rule std's out, if anything.  Then take it from there.  What you are describing is not typical of any std.

Oh yeah. I forgot to add that I have been taking Accutane for a couple months now, and I've heard that it messes with some testosterone levels. I dont know if this is valid, but testosterone, genitals, testosterone, genitals...  possible link? I dont know.
