Ureaplasma

Dear Dr(s).,

For a couple of years, at least 3 I have had constant trouble with a daily white and sometimes yellowish discharge as well as an occasional odor that smells sour/or to me like parmasean cheese. I am on birth control and after seeing many doctors I was often diagnosed with vaginitis or yeast infection and at times was told that the discharge is normal and possibly a result of my birth control pills. These answers were not satisfactory to me as the treatments had not worked and nothing seems normal to me about having the seat of my underwear coated with a white discharge daily. It's actually very embarrassing for me when sex is involved. Recently I switched doctors and went to a female gynocologist who diagnosed me with ureaplasma/mycoplasma. I was given doxycycline to take for 7 days and told that the symptoms would go away. However the symptoms have not gone away & I still have the daily discharge and the occasional sour odor. Most times there is no itching just the white discharge, however when the discharge turns yellow the odor is also present & then there is a slight itch. What can I do about this? I have taken the antibiotics, I have used clindamycin suppositories, home treatments for yeast infections & recently I have resorted to yogurt per the recomendation of my gyno. She recommended that I insert original unpasturized yogurt into my vagina once a day for 30 days. NOTHING HAS WORKED. I have read many posts that have said this is not an issue but given the odor and the mucusy discharge which begins almost immediately after I shower my self esteem is affected sexually. Vaginal odors from women raise red flags period & I really need help on this. Also a little more information about myself I wash with dove bar soap, I shower 2x a day, I don't duche or use perfume down there, I drink at least 8 bottles of water every day and my eating habits are normally healthy. Should I change my soap? Should I take more medication what can I do to get this to no longer be an issue for me? As well is it true that ureaplasma can affect fertility? I have read some information that suggest that as a side effect if it's untreated. Please any advice on what I can do.

Dancebaby...Did you ever find a cure for it?  I am still dealing with it, and the antibiotics that I am on are not working.

Did either one of you find a cure for it? I’ve been dealing with it for two and a half months. I’ve been on a round of Doxycycline and a round of azithromyacin and neither one has worked. I have lots of abdominal pain daily. I also have lots of white discharge inside, and a very slight itch occasionally.  Please help if you found a solution.

Hi. What worked wonders for me was taking probiotics . I even use two as a vaginal suppositories. Maybe a good idea to have your blood sugars tested. Sugar can cause so many bad health issues, not just diabetes. Sugar feeds so many critters including yeast.
So if you consume lots of sugary things,  try cutting down. It won't be easy if you have a sweet tooth. But in time it gets easier to the point where you lose your taste for it almost completely.
Let me know if it works. It takes some time. But worth it. Taking probiotics after your antitibiotics are finished is very recommended,  to at least replace some of the Good bacteria that was killed along with the bad ones.
The probiotics made me feel better with in the first couple of days. I suffered for years with BV. Was on anti biotics every couple of  months during my second pregnancy. Wish I knew about probiotics sooner.

Yes, I’m taking a very strong probiotic, and have been both times while on antibiotics as well. I don’t have BV or yeast, just the Ureaplasma that won’t go away. I will try to cut back on the sweets as you suggested.

BV could come on for a number of different reasons.

Vance2335 Thank you for your reply,

Um the first time I went to her office in July she gave me a pap which came back ok and ran a series of tests to see what the problem could be. She mentioned then that most doctors don't test for mycoplasma or ureaplasma but that it was probably what I had and then it came back positive. She gave me the medicine and then I went back again after the symptoms didn't clear up. So I guess I have to go again which is disheartnening when no one can give you a solution. I did have sex during the time of my treatment, but with a condom and lubrication. That is the only thing I did during that week period so my concern is how would the BV have come back :(?

Again thank you for your reply.

Best advice is to follow up with your Dr at this point. It's tough to give you better info because you have already have had Dr's examine and test you and right now they are probably the best resource.

My guess is that you would have recourring BV. Or maybe even Trich...have you been tested for that yet?
