Warts

I have been sexually active over last 1 year and have been doing paid sex in New Delhi ( India). I must have done this around 10 times in last 1 year with around 6 girls. Every time I have used a condom. 1 Month back I observed a wart groing at the base of my penis. i showed it to a doctor ( dermatologist) and he said nothing to worry and treated around 3 warts by electric arc. After 1 week 3-4 more warts are seen at my penis. I showed it to another doctor and he says that it is curable and have given me drugs and cream for around 10 days before doing cryogenics. I have under gone all tests and they are perfectly fine. I am scared Have I contracted a major disease. My cryogenics would be after 10 days
. In the mean time my wife also contracted it by me. She has got it removed by r.f method.
Please let me know will this be completely cured and I would be able to lead a normal life.

Can you transmit hpv thru non-sexual means? Yes you can and how often that happens we don't really have good numbers for because it's hard to study. However, washing your hands after touching your genital area initimately does protect a heck of a lot ( if you have long nails, scrub under them too ).  If it was really easy to transmit to kids especially, the literature wouldn't have such a hard time estimating the incidence of it like they do.  Hpv is far more likely to be transmitted thru sex than it is thru routine day to day contact and share surfaces.

the cream you were given can take up to several months to properly work. You need to be more patient. Did you ask your doctor things like how long should this take until you'll know if it's working or not? Don't hesitate to call them back and ask.

Your providers all think you have hpv, no reason to suspect otherwise.

Dear Aj,

You said "Your daughter can't get this from you unless you are having inappropriate contact with her"

What about if infected person giving shower to his daughter or washing her after stool using his hand, and is washing the hand with soap before giving her shower or washing her is enough??

I got the wart removed by r.f method and my wife also got it removed but again they have reappeared , Do I need to get them removed again is there no cure for it only surgery. I was also advised IMIquad by Doctor which i have applied thrice a week but I dont think it is getting cured but the itching has increased.
I also want to know how to differentiate between genital wart and molluscum contagiosum . One doctor hassaid it as wart and the other as molluscum but they say that the therapy is same
Is there no cure for it by medicine . Will i be needing to get it removed surgically time and again.
I hope there must be a cure for it in Homeopathy or Ayurvedic medicine
pls reply soon.

HPV isn't the same as herpes, which is HSV.

Your daughter can't get this from you unless you are having inappropriate contact with her.

I doubt its related to HIV.

Hi there -

What you have is called human papiloma virus, or HPV.  This is an extremely common virus.  Most people will get rid of it within 2 years, if not sooner.

Your life will remain normal, but you can get it again after its gone.  There are several types of HPV, so you can get infected with other strains.  Some strains just produce warts, but others can lead to cervical cancer in women, so make sure your wife gets her pap smears.

Condoms help, but don't offer full protection against HPV - only about 70%.

For more on HPV, see our HPV forum.
