What Do I Have?

Jan 30th received unprotected oral sex from a stranger. (I'm a male)

The following day I started to urethritis and just general pain in my groin, slight fever and chills.

Went to the clinic on Fed 1st (2 days later) They drew blood and took a urine sample, full STD pannel done (as I've never been tested). Dr. gave me one dose 500mg Suprax and 7 days 100mg doxycycline twice a day.

Everything came back negative...

I made an apt with a different Dr. Feb 6th as the pain hadn't subsided and spread to my testicles. I've had epididymitis before and that's what the Dr. decided I had. He really wasn't concerned about and STD risk from the unprotected oral.  Gave me 500mg ciprofloxacin twice daily for 10 days.

I called back today Feb 13th as I'm still having urethritis, groin pain, slight fever, chills, ocassional sharp pain in my groin, penis and testicles. My penis for 2 days was retracted like I had taken a cold bath for two days after exposure and three days this week. I haven't had an erection since my potential exposure. The swelling and epididymitis has subsided a fair amount but still there. They are doing an ultrasound on Feb 15th and follow up apt Feb 20th.

What do I have? Is this something related to my unprotected oral or just a coincidence?

Hi, just read your thread.
How are things now?  I guess it's long enough now to have had all tests.  Hope they've out your mind at rest, sometimes it's hard to accept when you still have unexplained symptoms. One thing that struck me was that you had 10 days of Cipro,  I was prescribed Cipro last September for a UTI and suffered from crippling anxiety, insomnia and a bit of a meltdown after it, also had joint issues, all of which  I relate completely to the Cipro, it all resolved within 3 months and I'm fine now, will apart from current nightmare  But I'm sure the Cipro has probably added to your anxiety and it will resolve in time.  Also, the mind is a very powerful thing, sounds like you've had all the tests you could have had and should be reassured that if there was ANY STI present then it would certainly have been found by now.  Hope life is a lot better.

Im going through rough times as well.  Ive put myself and and my wife and i beleive potentially my whole family and hers into so much pain.  I think god is punishing us for infidelity wether its only oral or not.  I went through the same encounter and now im paying hard for it and this is only the begining for me.  Im still waiting for the urine results.  i took the antibiotics 5 days ago and still have pain in urethra and occasionaly testicles.  i havent seen any swelling pr bumps or anything on my penis but maybe its too soon and i will eventually get something like that.  its been 2 weeks and 2 days since receiving unprotected oral from a massage piece of ****.

I hear ya. I've also had sleep problems.  I've tested negative for everything, including mycoplasma and ureaplasma.

My urologist has basically given up, and I'm going to an infectious disease specialist. Overall the symptoms have gotten better (to the point that I can 'manage' them) - but something is clearly wrong.

I understand how oral exposure is supposed to be low risk, and hat the multiple negative tests mean nothing is wrong, but I know that in my case this must be a result of the contact.

How have your symptoms been?

For me, it's unpredictable: some days are 'better' than others. And, the symptoms themselves are unpredictable: can be either a burning/stinging at the head of the penis, aching testicles, or pain in the groin area. Most days the mornings feel OK, but it gets worse as the day continues. I also have feelings of urinary frequency/urgency.

All that said, they are much less severe than at the original onset.

I'm also having problems with sleep and appetite, and am seeing a psychiatrist. Hang in there, you're not alone.

I had an absolute breakdown... I'm now being treated for an adjustment disorder with depressed mood and anxiety. I have had insomnia over the past weeks too. So I now have a slew of anti depressant/anxiety/sleep aid medication. Also seeing a psychologist in the near future.

I've quit taking the antibiotic and alpha blocker as I don't think they are doing anything. As I'm seeing abnormalities on the surface skin of my genitals.

I consulted with a different urologist that says they don't "present as warts" and could be molluscum or skin tag(s).

I really want to believe this is all in my head, but I think I'm going to request a biopsy. I've created my own hell on earth over this.

Any progress?  I may have similar problems, and am curious about whether the month-long antibiotic and alpha blocker are helping?  (Or, if you've had any ideas about the cause).

Best wishes...

Now 9 weeks later I haven't had any improvements. The anal itch has gotten worse.

Does this sound like I may have contracted HPV/genital warts?

I'm just updating because every thread I read just ends without a conclusion....

Urologist diagnosed me with prostatitis and wrote a script for month long antibiotic and alpha blocker.

They also tested for ureaplasma/mycoplasma (came back negative), and did a urine culture(came back normal).

I don't think it's anything fungal as I've had three different MD's look at my genitals and none of them seem alarmed.

So it could be a virus, trich, (which I've been told can't be acquired from oral), prostatitis/CPPS, or just all in my head...

more likely it's a fungal issue than herpes.

you wouldn't be having herpes symptoms now from the oral sex you received the end of january.

return monday to be seen again. meanwhile call off the crotch watch this weekend!!

I've developed an anal itch and my meatus is inflamed which is what is causing the wet discharge feeling. I've read these can be HSV symptoms. I'm so terrified about what I could have contracted.

Swab test came back negative! They couldn't do the test for Trich...

Liz, Thank you again for your support. She knows I'm having issues with my genitals but clueless to the encounter. I have come to terms with my mistake and have learned how important my family is. I will never let anything jeopardize that EVER AGAIN! I  cherish each min with them, as I don't know how long I can hide this if I end up with a STD.

@CodeWhite I know how you feel, the internet can be a dangerous tool. I'm at 3 1/2 weeks now and the feelings of anxiety, stress, guilt, and remorse come and go. I really need to keep off of it and stop diagnosing myself and leave it up to the professionals.  Have you proceeded to have unprotected sex with your regular partner? or did you tell them about your encounter?

I have an apt with the Urologist on the 4th as I'm still having a burning sensation in my right thigh/groin and testicle. Urethritis has been more or less non existent just some discomfort from the swab.

Should I test for trich, HEP B, or syphilis at my next visit? 4 1/2 weeks post potential exposure? The GP seems so non nonchalant about my concerns of STD's but I need to have some closure soon than later.

these aren't herpes symptoms you are having either. most likely irritation  causing some bumps to look more obvious for you.

make sure you are also avoiding caffeine, spicy foods and alcohol for a few weeks to see if that helps with your pain too.

Man let me tell you sometime your mind is your worst enemy. I was in the same boat as you did something stupid, received unprotected oral and pretty much diagnosed myself with every STD there was.  I was convinced I had herpes and once I read about a symptom sure enough, I convinced myself I was feeling it.

In addition to this my testicles turned bright red and were burning. I was checking myself 10 times a day and freaked out about every little bump or blemish I was seeing on my penis. Well a trip to the ER for a physical exam and a full STD work up confirmed that as of right now I am STD free.

Guilt sucks my friend and when you feel guilty and stress, you can talk yourself into having every symptom you read about. I am convinced that my stress/guilt even caused my testicles to flare up. Im still coping and there are periods where I dwell on things and still fear STDs but things are getting better.

My suggestion is to stop researching your condition on the internet, practice relaxation techniques, deal with the guilt and move on. It will be tough, but take this oppurtunity to realize that one night of fun no matter how strong the urge is worth the misery it causes when your in a relationship.

Good Luck

Got a call back from the Dr. they can't test for Trich as they would have needed to do two swabs. They said if I was still concerned the urologist would be able to test at that time.

The swab wasn't a highlight of the day but that's how my urethra felt for two weeks after the unprotected oral encounter which is why i'm so concerned. I can't believe my mind could have cause these physical symptoms.

Please think about talking to a therapist, so that you can learn how to best cope, before your wedding day.  You need to turn from the guilt, and stay in remorse, which is finite. Most importantly, let something good, come from this. Have you brought home flowers, taken out your family to do something memorable, and fun? Have you asked God for forgiveness, and received forgiveness? There's not one of us , who doesn't have sin and hasn't had to ask forgiveness. Have you told your wife that you have a bad back, to spare her from any speculation? I can't wait to hear that this nightmare is over, and you can truly begin to heal. You're in my prayers. Liz

Guilt is the more likely cause then a STD at this point.

Small cyst on my testicle was found during the ultrasound. Nothing to be concerned about. Dr. looked at my bumps and said they don't look like herpes possible a wart or a skin tag. I asked him for a vial culture but he said they wouldn't do that. And to check for a HPV they would need to shave it and send to pathology.

Retested for what Grace recommend via a swap vs the urine test done on 2/1. Should have the results back  in a few days.

I also have a referral to see a urologist to take a look at the bumps and a closer look at my urethra.

Dr. also said warts will turn white when exposed to vinegar. They didn't have any in the office so i tried when I got home... I couldn't see any change in the color. Has anyone ever hear of that before?

I know this may seem silly for my paranoia but I've only had 4 partners in my life and I've been with the same one for 7+ years we are engaged to be married next summer and have a 4 year old son together. I am living with an extreme amount of guilt over this. I've been abstaining from sexual contact from her until I can prove to myself that I pose no risk to her health and hopefully be able to put this behind me...

I assume that ultrasound found nothing? And now since it did you have moved on to Herpes as a possibility?

I've had a few small bumps on my glands and shaft of my penis appear over the last day. I'm terrified I have contracted HSV.

Had my ultrasound today...

Going in on 2/20 to talk about the results and will repeat testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea and ask about trich and NGU testings.

I thought trich isn't transferred via oral?

Should I have a concern for Hep B? (I'll have to check if I've been vaccinated)

your chlamydia base was covered but not your gonorrhea.

your provider wasted your money getting baseline testing done with all that testing...sigh.  Herpes testing is about the only testing it's worthwhile having baseline testing for and you'll need to check to see if it was even part of the testing you had done.

you don't need tested for herpes from this encounter either. hsv1 was your risk and if you had contracted it, you would've had very obvious and painful symptoms by now.

Yes those should have taken care of gonorrhea and chlamydia. We don't give out medication recommendations.

No HSV would not be detected that early. Waste of time and money.

I know the test were early but I've never been tested before, Dr. wanted to get a baseline testing done.

Wouldn't the treatment I received already have taken care of chlamydia and gonorrhea even if I didn't test positive? Trich would require a different antibiotic to treat effectively correct?

I have another apt on the 20th (3 week post exposure) what would you recommend I get tested for? Could HSV be detected this early? I know it may take weeks to test positive, but how many recently infected will test positive prior to the recommended testing window?

you tested too early for std's.  you need to repeat your chlamydia and gonorrhea testing as well as test for trich and ngu too.  I wouldn't bother testing for any other std's since your encounter was only oral and based on your symptoms.

these are not herpes symptoms either.
