Why he tested negative

My fiance and I have been together for five years and in May I tested positive for Trichomonas. He got incarcerated on May 28th and the last time we were intimate was May 22nd. Around May 31st I started having some vaginal itching and me not knowing thought it was a yeast infection so I tried to treat it with an over-the-counter medicine for 7 days. The itching calmed down but I could tell it was still there so I done the same thing again. I thought it had cleared up, then a couple of weeks later I could tell the itching was coming back so i called my doctor and asked if she would call me in dyflucan which is one pill you take for a yeast infection. I took the pill and all the itching was gone. A week later I noticed a heavy discharge and for me that was it because that had never happened to me before. I went to the doctor and she told me I had an STD. Of course I was shocked and upset and could not wait for him to call me so I could tell him. After speaking with him, and believe me I have known him since I was 15 and I am now 44 he said he had not been with anyone else and I have not either. He asked to be tested and they did a urine test and he told me yesterday his test was negative, and of course now I look I am lying to him. I am so dumb founded about tis because i have never had an STD. Can someone please help me?

It could be all kinds of things causing her symptoms - yeast, bacterial vaginosis, an std.  If you haven't been tested for stds, you should be, and your partner needs to see her doctor.

I have recently been in South East Asia and I  have had a relationship and unprotected sex for several months with a lady that I knew and thought was a very clean and healthy person. ( my bad judgement to take a risk ). I have had no symptoms of anything but then I was back in the US just three weeks ago and my partner called me just two days ago to tell me that she now has a sudden burning and redness inside her vagina and I know without any doubt at all that she has not had sex with anyone other than me for many years. Does anyone recognize these symptoms?

Females are more likely to get symptoms, but you can still have it with no symptoms.  I really doubt either of you have had it for 5 years with no symptoms.  There is no definite thing that says how long you can have it with no symptoms, but I'd say the longest is a couple of years.

Yes, I have heard about getting it other ways besides sex, but of course that is very very rare. My fiance thinks maybe he could have been a carrier and if so why did it take so long for me to get any type of symptoms? This is all new to me but if I have read right, a person can have "trick" for a long time and have no symptoms right? But, does that go for female too, or can only males carry it with no symptoms? Sorry if I'm confusing you.

Hi there -

Trich is the only std that you MIGHT get in another way, such as at the gym, etc., but this is VERY rare.  I would suspect someone had it from another partner long before I would ever suggest someone got it another way.

The only time I have ever suggested the other way is if someone has not had sex for a long time - as in years, not weeks.

I was not diagnosed until July 3rd. When this all started which was around May31 or June 1st I thought I had a yeast infection and tried to treat the itching with over-the-counter medicines and this went on until around the end of July because the itching would stop and then maybe a week later it would come back and I was not able to see my Dr until July 3rd. That is when I initially found out.

Thanks for you post. Everything you have mentioned I have read. Believe me we have talked. The thing is, and I'm not just say this because he is my fiance, but I know for sure he has not been with anyone since he has been with me. He is going to be treated, but I am just so confused now because his urine test came back negative. Since I made this post, I have been calling nurses to find out why this is. I was told by 5 different locations that a male can not be tested for "trick" by having a urine test done.

Trichomoniasis is an infection with a one-cell parasite spread by sexual contact (sexually transmitted disease or STD). It is sometimes called a Trichomonas infection or trich (say "trick"). trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Therefore, both partners should be treated at the same time to eliminate the parasite. Persons being treated for trichomoniasis should avoid sex until they and their sex partners complete treatment and have no symptoms. Metronidazole can be used by pregnant women. Both men and women can get a trich infection, but it is more common in women. Trich in pregnant women can cause problems with the pregnancy. The time from contact with the trich parasite until you get symptoms is usually 5 to 28 days.1  This is called the incubation period. You can spread trich to others during this time and until you finish the prescribed medicine. You should avoid all sexual contact until you finish taking your medicine and the symptoms are gone.u should have a serious talked with your boyfriend.and if he the only one your having sex with? you know what that mean.doctor are still not sure if trichomonas is and std,or just a virginal bacteria.and it very much possible that is test can come back negative.he should get treated regardless   of what his test said.

hope to hear from u soon.
