chronic urethritis
hi, after a year of suffering i finally found out what was causing my frequent urination. i got it when i was 19 and now im 20 years old. during those early symptoms of tingling, burning during urination and frequent urination, i was given antibiotics that was suppose to cure whatever it was causing it. well it didnt, and i suffered a lot from it. the antibiotics i took were azithromycin, oflox, cipro, and last doxy. all of them for 1 weeks 2 a days except for the azithromycin which was taken only once of 1g i believe. now after taking all this antibiotics, i still had frequent urination which was really crazy to the point i was thinking of killing myself. my quality of life was certainly diminished and took everything away from me. doctors now said i dont have any infection what soever since they said i took all this antibiotics already. i had everything done from ultrasound, prostate check up twice, all of it.. except the cystoscopy which i would not even consider. then after months and months i couldnt take it anymore and had the cystoscopy and the doctor found that i had urethritis! my urethra was infected he said and that my bladder and kidney are sore and tightened from all the urination ive been having. to my relief i was very happy that they have finally found out what was causing my frequent urination. now the doc gave me 3 weeks of doxy for it.. now my question is will the 3 weeks of doxy work if i already had them before for 1 week which didnt work? please reply i would appreciate any help. thank you!
I had exactly the same exposure as you: unprotected oral, followed of protected sex. This was in early February 2012. Three weeks later got this feeling of wanted to urinate every ten minutes, followed by pain my testicles. It was awful. Dr gave me Cyprofloxacin and it cleared out 1-2 weeks later. Now is June 2012 and I have the frequent wish to urinate again. Urine is clear, no pain, no discharge. I'm not sure if it's stress or anxiety. The thing is I have been obsessed with HIV because of this incident. I tested 5 and 9 weeks post incident but I will probably re-test again next week (+4 months post incident) just to definitely rule out the HIV issue. Have you tested for HIV after your exposure?
If you haven't been treated for Trich in the past, a course of Metro certainly will not hurt and could possibly help you if you have a Trich infection. You could have Trich and not even know it, or it could be part of the cause of your persistent urethritis. Don't be affraid to ask your doc about it.

i still got symptoms.. question. how long does chronic urethritis takes to heal? doc said my bladder is kinda irritated like cystitis. im taking macrodantin now which the doctor said that it would kill the gram negative bacteria since doxy did the job for the gram positive. im takin it once a day for 30 days. i cant believe it! i thought this should be over by now after going through cystoscopy..
do you think i should ask a prescription for Metronidazole just to make sure? im a healthy 20 yr old dude so this is really bothering me. im also takin zinc, vitamin A,B,C. doc said vitamin A should help with the healing of the tissue.

odds are this isn't trich going on.
no, your tongue won't look unhealthy and be due to trich.
continue to follow up as needed with the urologist as symptoms continue. you really don't need to keep thinking this is std related.

hi, i just finished my 3 weeks of doxy and il say that i am not completely cured. probably just 30%, but the doctor told me it would take awhile for it to get better and he would prescribe me 3 months of antibiotic this time.
now im beginning to think maybe this could be trich causing all this. you mentioned tindamax right? is that better then flagyl? i might just buy one of those + its only a single dose isn't it? i had to drop a lot of my classes due to all this, hardly can concentrate.
il add also that my tongue looks unhealthy now, you think trich is responsible for this?

unprocted oral and protected vaginal. abx was really not effective which i took before without the doxy. told the doc that i still had symptoms and then i had the cystoscopy. after that he prescribed me again with abx but this time with doxy. which is doing the trick. before this i wake up 2-3 times a night just to urinate, 24/7 uncomfort but now a lot better. il say 40% better and thats after a week of antibiotic, hopefully after 3 weeks everything will be back to normal and il get my life back. without doing a cystoscopy, the doc would have never realized that i still had urethritis after all this time. never ever i want to do that again..
il add that my tongue had some spots, as if i had sore throat. i believe this was an indication too that something was up which now is disappearing after this course of antibiotic. last, tip of my penis on the meatus left side was irritated. like a chicken skin which was small, and white. after showing this doc just wanted to do the cystoscopy and found urethritis after all.

Can you tell us what kind of encounter is was? Just unprotected oral or unprotected vaginal sex?
I'm glad the abx are working. Keep us posted. There is another thread going where we are talking about persistent urethritis, which sounds like what you had/ have. None of our doctors can diagnose us but we're still having issues, so please let us know how things progress with you.

well after a sexual encounter, next day i felt tingling, itchiness and frequent urination. after 3 days visited the clinic..after 5 months finally went to a urologist who suggested cystoscopy which i refused at 1st but grown desperate and did it and here i am now. so weird after taking all these antibiotics that i still had symptoms.. i believe i needed a longer course maybe? well right now im on my 7th day of doxy and doxazosin for my bladder to relax from all the tension. i am seeing improvement for sure and dont urinate as much as before, irritation and pain lessened and the flow of my urine has became better. i think 3 weeks of doxy might do the trick. il keep you updated after finishing all my meds.
Hey Zi, what was your exposure and why did all this start? I would say that it may help a little bit but you should have cleared the infection a long time ago when they gave you all the antibiotics. You may want to explore other options. Ask your doctor about the possibility of Trich causing all this and maybe add a dose of tindamax.
