molluscum and sexual activity

A few weeks ago when in the shower I noticed about 10-15 small zit looking bumps on my pubic area above my genitals. I scratched out a few of the bigger ones and they bled quite a bit. After a few weeks I went to the doctor as a few more had appeared, although all of them are very small at this point. The doctor quickly told me it was molluscum contagiosum and that it was not a big deal and to look it up on the internet. I'd have to agree that it is what it looks like, though I'm really not sure how I could have got it. I had not had sex for about 2 months prior to this and I had never noticed anything on my partner at the time.

Anyway, I am single now and I'm concerned about moving forward how to deal with this as quickly as possible. Considering how long these are supposed to stick around, it's very concerning to me thinking about not having sex for the next 6-12 months. Is that indeed what I am facing? I plan on setting up an appointment with a dermatologist.. I simply want to know the best course of action to take to get rid of these and if sexual activity is possible. Also, the molluscum have not grown in the 2 weeks I've had them, they are very small, do they grow very slowly? Because the pictures I've seen on the internet they look quite a bit larger. Thank you for any help!

Thanks both of you, I will call for an appointment Monday. They have indeed started appearing in larger numbers and I'm not going to wait around idly. Looking forward to speaking to the doc!

mc is contagious to a partner and you shouldn't have sex with someone new until they are gone and have been gone for a few months.

you can have these removed surgically by the dermatologist or there are also medications you can try that usually gets rid of them within a few months of use.  I'm not a huge fan of the wait for them to go away on their own method since you usually end up spreading them more which is just even more annoying.

All I can really say is set up that appointment and the dermitologist will most like do something to get rid of them. Now they can reappear and you would have to go for treatment again. But you can have sex just don't have sex when you have symptoms.
