ngu and doxycycline

hi,

i'm a male, visually diagnosed wif ngu this monday and was given 2 weeks dose of doxycycline to be taken twice daily.

after taking the medication on the fourth day juz before going to bed, i had a couple of break sleeps as i felt something was stuck in my throat. i thought that it could haf been the medication and it didnt go smoothly down my throat. but thinking bak, i rem drinking a full glazz of water after taking the medication so how was it possible?

i woke up the next morning and still had a little feeling that something was stuck there but it was mild. the moment i started eating, drinking and even blurping, i had this really intense pain in my throat or rather esophagus between my chest area.

my qn is,

1) is this the cause of the doxycycline or ngu or some std problem.

2) if it's the doxycycline, do i continue medication as indicated because my doc wanted me to complete my medication before my next appt which is soon to check to the ngu symptoms are still there or not and confirm recovery.

3) if i stop medication, will my throat get better? what about my ngu problem? how am i able to fully recovery from it if i stop medication.

i haf already stopped medication for 1 day and i still feel the pain in my esophagus. really need your prompt reply as i'm not sure if stopping the medication was the right thing to do.. please help me, i'm really worried!!!

I guess the provider you saw or the pharmacist you talked to didn't do adequate health teaching on this. You can still take antacids when you are on doxy - just not at the same exact time.  For instance if you usually take your antibiotic at 8am, don't take the antacid until at least 1 hour later.  What acid did the doctor recommend and how often to take it?

hi auntiejessi,

thank you for replying..

i called the pharmarist that gave me the medication and he says it was the side effect of the medication. he told me to drink lotsa water for the whole day and i'll be fine. He also said that i can continue medication.

the prob is... he sounded like a blur ****! it make me wonder if i should listen to him or not.. lol..

i wen to see a normal doc as well.. i asked for a guy doc but the tupid receptionist gave me a female doc.. i wanted to ask the doc if i should continue my mediation bt since it was a  female.. i became shy to let her know of my condition~  lol...

instead, i juz told her my prob and she diagnosed me wif oesophagus reflux(side effect of doxycycline) meanin the acid in my stomach traveled up to my esophagus causing irritation and prescibe me wif anacid.

i read somewhere that if i were to take doxycycline, i must not take anacid because it will lessen the effectiveness of doxycycline.

so, now i'm at a lost again.. i'm not sure to follow the std pharmarist's advice or discontinue taking doxycycline and get my esophagus prob cured.. man~~

I think you need to contact your doctor about this now.  You might be having an allergic reaction to the meds.  Do not take another pill until you talk to your doctor.

You will be ok if your doctor says its not an allergic reaction.  The usual treatment for NGU is one week of doxy, so if you just start again after talking to your doctor, you will still end up with a full week of treatment.

But its VERY important to call the doctor today.  Yes, its a weekend, but someone is covering.   If you went to an std clinic, and they don't have coverage, call your regular doctor for advice.
