pharyngeal gonorrhea

I performed oral sex on a male who had gonorrhea of the penis, but i did not ever have intercourse (sex) with him. he never touched my genitals before ever. him and me didn't know he had gonorrhea of the penis until he went to the doctors and was diagnosed after lab testing (urine & urethra swabs). he mentioned the symptoms he has been having for about a week the day he was over and before i gave oral sex. ( i know stupid me should of took this more serious and known) He went to the doctors the next day and was diagnosed with gonorrhea! and when he told me I was so alarmed that I went to the doctors right way and told the doctor i just found out i gave oral sex on a man who had gonorrhea! the doctor kept assuring me not to worry, not to worry! and said i am ok and he thinks i have nothing to worry about. The doc wanted to put me at ease so he prescribed me the same medication the man with gonorrhea of the genitals had (Doxycycline). my question is, even tho my friend was prescribed Doxycycline and had some shot for his genital gonorrhea, will the Doxycycline (only) i was prescribed still prevent me from getting pharyngeal gonorrhea or any gonorrhea in my mouth??? He told me he caught it from a girl who he had intercourse with six weeks ago. by the way, there was no ejaculation that occured anywhere near my mouth, i dont think any fluids touched my mouth, can i still contact gonorrhea by mouth, throat, genitals, anywhere? i dont think i had opened cuts on hands that fluid may have touched except maybe a tiny scratch that healed with a scab.
will my meds protect me
and does throat gonorrhea have white puss like strep has or just red throat? what does it look like so i can beware! i am scared and still alarmed! the doc i went to didnt even want to test me or do any throat cultures. it was the next day after oral sex, is that to early for throat cultures and will antibiotics still work if gonorrhea was not even incubated yet?

Ask the doctor about it.  There are specific parts of the test that the doctor should be able to read to find out if you are immune from vaccination or whether its from the actual virus.

I'm guessing the nurse just didn't know how to read the results.

my hep b results say (hep b Antibodies and the titer number 20 high) and then it says 10 and above are positive for immunity. of course dr was to busy to talk so told secretary to tell me all blood work is ok and she didnt answer my question right and just gave me a guess! so id like to ask you, why didnt it say specifically it was high because of my vaccine six yrs ago and not cause i have hepb infection? would it say antigen test if i was pos for the actual disease. just hopin to get a better more clear answer thanks.
and since it says 20 H is that bad cause it says high i hope not to high but i guess i do not need a booster it is still strong

Yes, they can do a blood test.

And don't be abstinent forever.  Sex can be a wonderful thing.  Just take the time to get to know someone and get tested, and make sure they do too.

Condoms go a long way in preventing std transmission, too.

Your blood work will show hsv1 positive since you've had cold sores.

The hep b test will show immunities to hep b, and they will be able to tell that its from a vaccine.  Once you get it, its good for life.

Your doctor went into big overkill mode.

You are not at risk for HIV, or Hep B or C from oral sex.  (Hep C is very rarely sexually transmitted - its transmitted by someone else's blood getting into your blood stream.)

Your tests are not accurate at 5 days, with the exception of gonorrhea and chlamydia.  The rest can take up to a few months to show on a test.  But its still good that you had them done - at least you'll know your status, and since you won't get those from oral sex, you don't need to worry about re-testing.

There is some debate on whether or not chlamydia can be orally transmitted - at best, its rare.  The standard treatment for gonorrhea is rocephin and doxy, to treat chlamydia unless it can be ruled out.  It doesn't mean he had it - its just standard treatment while they wait for further testing.

hi Aj,
They drew blood from me today to check for HSV, HIV, HEP B &C.  gonorhea & chalmydia by throat culture. my question is was it too soon to test for all this if the sexual activity was only 5 days ago and will my HIV and other results be accurate?
i also heard chalmydia can be caught by giving oral sex? and doctor said my partener was probably given the doxy for chalmydia just incase he had that to. so will doxy cure throat chalmydia to? thanks AJ

From giving oral sex, you can get gonorrhea and syphilis.  Oral hsv2 is possible, but its very rare.

Test for syphilis at 6 weeks.

From getting oral sex, you can get gonorrhea, syphilis, genital hsv1 and NGU.

thanks for the advice and i did seek another opinion today and see another doctor and he gave me the rocephin shot in my hip and i also got blood work and throat swabs and told him test me for everything. I even feel better about all this and my anxiety is down. my throat even feels better it doesnt feel as raw or sore. I know some doctors arent as anal or as worried as others about what happens to you. this doctor almost tried telling me as well "you will be ok, your chances are very low and it is pretty hard to contact other diseases by mouth. i think he said you can contct gonorrea and chalymidia by mouth and hsv2. if you dont mind i like to learn more if you can explain which diseases are exactly contcted by mouth? and what it can lead to in other areas in body if caught
your help was helpful thanks

Well, doxy isn't a great treatment for gonorrhea.  You'd need rocephin (ceftriaxone).  That's probably the shot your partner had.

Since you've had the antibiotics, the testing might be skewed, but I'd wonder if there is an std clinic near you.  They would be MUCH better able to treat this appropriately, and you need treatment.  Testing the next day would have been too soon to test, but if the doctor was going to treat, he should have treated you correctly.

Even if he didn't ejaculate in your mouth, he can still transmit gonorrhea there.  And while I know most people think there are no fluids without ejaculation, there is also pre-ejaculatory fluid that you would be exposed to.

Most pharyngeal gonorrhea doesn't have symptoms, but if you did, you might have a sore throat, etc.
