Dear Dr Hunter Handsfield,
Thanks so much more providing such valuable information and giving me hope.
I have genital warts and I am meeting my doctor next month for treatment of electro-cautery.(previous treatment with acid didnt work). I have 2 questions for you.
1) Scars which may be caused by electro-cautery are they permanant or will eventually go away,in a year or 2?
2)My second question is that can taking fat burners/ energy capsules with a lot of caffeine content in them promote recurrence of genital warts/ hinder the clearance process?
I am interested in taking diet pills which have 300 mg of caffeine per serving and 200 mg of Green Tea Leaf Extract. Serving Size is 2 capsules.
Maximum recommended dosage is 2 servings 4 capsules per day.
In some places i have read caffeine is not good for immune system and in other places I have read and it says caffeine has antioxidants and is a good source of iron.
I asked my Doctor,he said caffeine may not have an impact on recurrence of genital warts.
I am aware that warts may or may not appear after my treatment but I do not want to take any step to worsen my immune system's response to clearing this virus after the treatment.

There was a software glitch and for several days a number of questions were misrouted to a server that did not post them properly. In addition, it appears that the automated limit to number of questions each day did not work properly. The result is a serious backlog. My replies to many questions will be briefer than usual, and I need to be very strict in following the rules about questions that duplicate others, especially for obvious low risk situations. To your question:
1) I'm not an expert in cautery treatment of warts, but I believe that any minor scarring clears up without a trace over several weeks or months. But if uncertain, ask the provider who treated you.
2) Your doctor is right. No medicine, diet, or other lifestyle manipulation (stress, sleep, etc, etc) or any attempts to maintain a healthy immune system has any known effect at all on genital warts or HPV infection. Take your diet pills as you wish; it will make no difference on your warts one way or the other.
