3 days out

3 days after sex with random unknown person (me male other female) and condom breaking at some point during coitus, maximum of 3-4 minutes prior to exit, tingling in tip of penis and I saw what looked like dried pre *** in my underwear.  No dripping now the next day, no pain while urinating.  Obviously in a state of anxiety/stress, when can i test for gon, chlamydia.  If positive for either of those should I then consider HIV test?

Thanks,

NC

CDC recommends against retesting for gonorrhea or chlamydia, because for practical purposes the recommended treatments never fail.

If someone is infected, the drugs cure it within a day or two, but people are advised to not resume sexual activity until a week has passed.

This ends this thread. You can't keep coming back with every little new question that enters your mind.

Thanks for the response, I know you get tired of all the follow ups and rightfully so.  She never said to not get retested....just that I will know the results in the next day or two.  I may have worded my question wrong as well with you, I guess a better question is if no retesting is necessary, if the tests are positive how long to clear up the infection.

Last question I PROMISE.

The NP is correct.  You do not need retesting, especially if your initial test results are negative, which they probably will be.

Doctor....I was tested, and given treatment, the results are not back at this time but was given 2 grams of the Zithromax generic...cant remember the spelling.  The NP said that it would take care of both chlamydia and Gonorrhea if they are/were present.  I know that I will be speaking with them soon, but wanted to know if these both or one or the other are present, what kind of time frame do I need to wait for re testing.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the thanks.  No apology necessary.  All bleep outs are done automatically.  I would prefer they not be deleted but can't do anything about it.  The software wasn't developed with STD and sexually explicit questions in mind.

Thank you very much for the advice.  Also, my apologies for making you *** out one of my words, that was in poor taste by me.  You are a wonderful service and you are appreciated.

An online test site is inappropriate in your situation.  Because of your symptoms, you need direct care including physical exam.  There is no test for NGU except from exam and on-site back-up lab tests; you could be negative for everything that an online lab tests for and still have NGU.  Also, you'll spend 10 times for for online testing, including mostly tests that you don't need, based on your exposure and the nature of your symptoms.

Don't worry about anonymous. Public health STD clincs are the most carefully confidential health care sites that exist.  Nobody will find out.

Do you know anything about these online test sites?  You set it up over the phone then got to a lab and have the tests done?  Anonymous which is nice.

You are right to be concered aboutl sexually acquire urethritis, such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or non-chlamydial, nongonococcal urethrits (NGU).  However, it is unusual for symptoms to appear once and then stop; if you had one of those, most likely you would have continued to notice abnormal penile discharge, underwear staining, and the like.  However, it is possible you have one of those conditions and definitely should see a health care provider about it.  Testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia is accurate within 1-2 days of catching the infection, so you can see a provider at any time.

If you aren't confident your own primary care provider is up to speed on STDs, your local health department STD clinic would be an excellent choice for expert, confidential, and low cost (or free) care.  If you are able to identify and locate your partner, it would also be a good idea to talk to your partner and suggest she get checked out as well.

HIV testing generally is recommended for people with other STDs, or once a year for non-monogamous sexually active persons.  But the odds you were infected were very low.  Follow the advice about HIV testing of the clinic or other provider you see for STD evaluation.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
