AM I OK?

HI,

BOTH MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND, WERE TREATED FOR CHLAMYDIA, WITH A SINGLE DOSE OF ZITHROMAX. IT HAS BEEN TEN DAYS NOW AND WE HAVE HAD NO INTERCOURSE. WHEN IS IT SAFE TO REUME INTERCOURSE?

Since you both were already infected and both have been treated, you probably need not have stopped having sex at all.  That's a standard recommendation, but really matters mostly when only one member of a couple is infected.  Even there, the standard recommendation is to wait a week, and you are beyond that.  Go for it!

But also you both should be retested for chlamydia 3-4 months from now, even if neither of you is reexposed to other partners in the meantime. This is called 'rescreening'. In a few percent of cases, Zithromax suppresses but does not eradicate chlamydia--so a short term test-of-cure (e.g., 3-4 weeks from now can show negative), but may show positive again after several weeks to a few months.  The odds are that repeat testing will be negative, but you should both do it to be safe.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
