A.R.S. and Amoxicillin

  Dear Dr.HHH,

I Received unprotected oral sex however engaged in Protected Intercourse with 5 women in 1 week.  3 weeks later, my Right lymphnode is swollen yet i experience No sore throat or strip-throat. I may also add, that I have 0 problems in my groins/penis, 0 problems in my armpits, and 0 rashes. And My Left lymphnode is also fine/normal.  Shortly after, the swelling of my right lymphnode, I had a fever, chills, night-sweats,dry cough which lasted 4 days.  500mg of Amoxicillin was used to treat this flue. And now I feel fine. I am currently waiting for my 6th week to get Blood-Work done out of pre-caution for any S.T.D.   In the meanwhile my anxiety prompts the following questions  :::

1)  Can A.R.S. sickness be treated by Amoxicillin ????

2)  How many days do A.R.S. Fevers typically last ??? {u've mentioned several in previous posts.  is 4 days defined as several ???}

3)  And how High are typical  A.R.S. fevers ???

~~~~thank u so much for your time~~~~~
Which lymph node, i.e. where?  Apparently not groin.  Neck? Armpit?  Elbow area?  Presumably you have seen a health care provider who has confirmed the lymph node enlargement (although many things other than lymph nodes can cause swellings under the skin).  If you had lymph node enlargement in the groin, I would be concerned about the possibility of an STD such as herpes, syphilis, or other very rare ones, like lymphogranuloma venereum or chancroid.  But enlargement of a single lymph does not  suggest ARS.  What did your own provider say?  Why did s/he prescribe amoxicillin?
To answer your specific questions:  1) Amoxicillin is an antibiotic; antibiotics have no effect on viruses, including HIV; therefore amoxicillin has no effect whatsoever on ARS.  2) Fever due to ARS typically lasts at least 7-10 days.  3) An ARS fever can be anywhere from 100 degrees and up.
Bottom line:  You don't have ARS.  But follow-up with your own provider in case his/her opinion differs from mine.
