About to get hitched

Dear Doctor:

I’m engaged to be married in about one month.  Stupidly, about 26 days ago, I went with my friends to a strip club in Seattle (the one in downtown!).

I fingered one of the girls there (even though against house rules) for about 15 seconds.   I bite my finger nails a lot, so I’m sure I had kind of cut on my fingers.  No bleeding from my finger, because I certainly would not have fingered a girl with a bleeding cut.   The girl I fingered was not bleeding or anything like that.

THEN as an encore, we were stupid enough to go to a massage parlor (yes, it was Asian, but that’s irrelevant, in case anyone is wondering).  Well, along with all the guys there, I got a very nice massage, but also an UNPROTECTED blow job that lasted for about 15 seconds or so.   Also, I’m not circumcised.

I’ve read your archives by using search terms such as “oral sex,” and “HIV," and "fellatio."

My main concern is HIV.  Based on what I read, I have the following questions:

1. I feel that my HIV-risk for this night of frolicking was ZERO.   My own risk assessment is based on my knowledge of HIV and reading the archives.

     a. However, I don’t want to put my future wife’s life at risk.   Should I do the PCR testing since I’m at 27 days now?

2. STDs:  Even though I feel that my HIV-risk was ZERO, there is still some REMOTE risk of STDs.  But the risk seems probably too low to worry about considering 15 seconds of unprotected fellatio.  In fact, even if it were double that time (i.e., 30 seconds), I think the answer would be the same.

3. ARS Symptoms:  I know that symptoms are notoriously unreliable, and incorrect in the majority of cases.

However, I’ve had stuffy nose and post-nasal drip on-and-off for past two weeks.  Am I being unreasonable in characterizing this as ARS???

It seems to me that my so-called symptoms do not even remotely appear to be ARS based on the definition of ARS…not to mention that ARS is not “on and off.”

I would appreciate your opinion, doctor.   I’ve already talked to my general practitioner.  Her opinion was that I have NO HIV-risk, and should simply “carry on.”

However, I’m afraid that her opinion is a little tainted, because she is a close friend of the family.

The overall tone of your message says that you already know my responses; and since you have read the other posts you describe, I won't elaborate.  To cut to your specific questions:

1) You're right.  1a) Do not have a PCR test.

2) Presumably you recognized the logical inconsistency in your question:  If the risk was zero, there cannot be any risk, even "remote".  "Zero" is more accurate, and there is no need for testing.

3) Yes indeed, it is unreasonable to believe your symptoms might be ARS, which does nott cause post-nasal drip.  (Ever. Period.)

Friend of the family or not, your GP is right.  Relax and stop worrying.  Best wishes--

Listern to your doctor. Their advice is right. No one gets HIV from receiving a BJ or fingering. No one.
