Ache in testes after sex but negative test result?????

by brianturner, Jun 15, 2005 12:00AM
About 6 months ago i had protected sex with a prostitute. about 2-3 weeks after that i started to get an ache in the testicles i went and got tested for chlamydia and gonnorreah both of which came back negative 4 weeks after possible exposure, the ache was still there after 3 months so i got tested again ( full screen including hiv, chlamydia, gonnorreah, hepatitas B and syphilis) they all came back negative again but i am left with this ache still there after 6 months. Because of the ache still there i had another full screen after 5 months again negative. It is really starting to do my head in now, could the  three test results all be wrong or is there any other std not tested for that it could be? There is now swelling or any particular tenderness just this persistant ache. I have not had any discharge so does this exclude things like NGU etc. or would this have been picked up on the GUM clinic visits with full screenings? at these visits they did test a urine sample. i would like to start a relationship but am wary about having unprotected sex whilst i am having this ache any advice on what may be the problem would be helpful.also do you think it would be safe for me to have unprotected sex or do you think i may put someone at risk of infection, even after 3 negative results. if it makes a difference the STD checks were done at a uk GUM Clinic

Your symptoms don't suggest STD; I know of no STD that causes prolonged testicular aching.  The negative tests can be considered reliable, especially twice by knowlegeable providers like a UK GUM clinic.  I have often said on this forum that when a person suspects his or her own symptoms are due to anxiety, they usually are right.  You can initiate a new sexual relationship without fear of infecting your partner.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Brian, you could get an ultrasound done to check for any swelling in the testes. I also had tenderness but the ultrasound came back negative.

A testicular ultrasound won't help anything.

Really? I was experiencing similar symptoms (no swelling, just an ache) and I was sent for a testicular ultrasound. They found out that I had chornic prostatitis.
