Update -
I went to my urologist and had a panel of tests for STD's. I tested negative for all - syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and HIV. However, I was told that I had a past infection of herpes. I feel terrible. I never had any symptoms of herpes that I can think of. I lwas so upset that I left the doctor's office without knowing what type of herpes infection I have.
I will need to tell my girlfriend so she can get tested. I am afraid this could take a toll in our relationship. Is my sex life ruined? What should I look out for as far as outbreaks? I'm scared.
Anxiety does not cause visible discharge. There are normal genital discharges that do occur in men from time to time but, based on your history, I would still get this checked out. EWH
I have an appointment with my uroligist tomorrow to check this out. Actually it feels a bit better today as I did not have any significant discharge this morning and the irritation has subsided alot. I'm trying to stay positive and hope all is well. Could this just be anxiety?
I appreciate all the advise and expertise you provide to this community.
You ask and excellent question which, sadly, there are not many good answers to. If you have NGU from the other persons mouth bacteria, in theory your GF is not at particualr risk. The problem is that this is theory only and the convention is to treat the sex partners of person with NGU using the same therapy. Thus for your GF to not get treated, while making sense theoretically, is not supported by research. The best course of action is for her to be treated. Sorry. EWH
I'm just asking the question cause I've read that it's really not a typical STD if NGU is acquired through oral.
Just want clarification.....thanks so much
Thanks for your quick response.
I have been reading through the forums and to my understanding is that one of causes of NGU can be from normal bacteria in a person's mouth that is transferred to the recepient in oral sex (in my case me). With that said, is my girlfriend still at risk of having contracted NGU from me through sex? (assuming that I have NGU).
Oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs. Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny. Your symptoms are suggesitve of NGU which is easiely treated if indeed that is present. My advice would be to go see a health care provider and get this checked out. If you have NGU, then your GF should also be treated in the same way withthe same medications, both to protect her health and to prevnt the infection from "bouncing" back and forth between you.
You are correct that your HIV risk is close to zero.
Hope this helps. I suggest you get this checked out. The tests for urethritits are best if you have not voided for at least an hour before the specimens are collected. EWH
