Antibiotic Effectivness

by anrol, Jun 11, 2007 12:00AM
After having an vaginal sex with a prostitute I went for full STD tests.  Tests were approx 6 - 7 days after exposure.  I was given azithromycin and another antibiotic.  ( all results were negative )

About 3 weeks later co-incidentally I got tonsilitus and was prescribed 2 weeks of penicillin.

I have had no symptoms to this exposure which was approx 10 weeks ago, however my only concern is syphilis, I know I tested too soon for this to be accurate.

My questions are:-

1) Would the 2 antibiotics prescribed at time of tests plus subsequent penicillin have been enough to cure incubating syphilis if present.
2) Would I have seen symptoms by now? if so what would they be?
3) How low is syphilis in hetrosexual relationships (even CSW)

Thanks for a valuable service you offer.

Regards

Directly to your questions:

1) Both azithromycin and penicillin are 100% effective in curing incubating syphilis.

2) If you mean symptoms of syphilis, the question is irrelevant; given the treatment you had, there is no chance you have syphilis.  You can read any number of websites about the symptoms of syphilis.  Generally the first sign is a painless open sore, most likely on the penis, appearing 3-6 weeks after exposure.

3) Syphilis risks vary geographically and by population group. If your commercial partner is an ethnic minority in a southeastern city, or along the Mexican border, her risk of having syphilis might have been high.  Elsewhere in the country and in non-minority populations, extremely rare--and reported syphilis is entirely absent in many states in the US.

Bottom line:  You have no STD worries from your recent adventures.  Best wishes--
