Anxiety over possible herpes symtoms(symptoms)/HIV

Hello,

History...I tested positive for HSV-1 after a partner tested positive for it, however I've never noticed any symptoms besides a pimple every few years (no pain) until now (according to my doctor).

I had unprotected sex over 4 months ago. About 2 weeks after I started developing sharp shooting pains in my feet, hands, and groin. Sometimes this was just a dull pain or burning sensation. Shortly after I suspected HIV, ran to my doctor and got tested for HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis...all came back negative. The symptoms continue today. I've had HIV tests at 2 weeks, 2 and 3 months all which came back negative. I'm still really worried about HIV infection due to what my doctor describes as a herpetic episode. Of all I've read it's kinda rare for an herpetic episode to last this long (3+ months) with no sores of any kind. Also I've had what fells like an ear infection for as long as the shooting pains in both ears. My doc took a look and said it's probably related to allergies?

The last few weeks I've been getting really achy joints/slight headaches. The anxiety is killing me, I feel as though I'm coming unglued both mentally and physically.

Thanks in advance,
teahupoo

Your symptoms do not suggest either HIV or herpes--except for the "pimple", which I assume occurs on or near your mouth.  And your negative HIV test results are 100% reliable.

You might benefit from seeing a mental health professional--or at leas speaking with your own doctor--to understand why you are unable to shake your fears and anxiety despite the obvious facts of the case.  I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.

Good luck-- HHH, MD
