Anything to worry about?

by Las Vegas Al, Dec 02, 2004 12:00AM
About six months ago I had protected intercourse and received unprotected oral sex with a woman I hardly knew.  About 2 weeks later, the skin on the head of my penis and my foreskin dried up and flaked off within 2 weeks.  At the same time I developed a rash between my scrotum and my legs which cleared up after 3 weeks.  I attributed the rash and dry skin to a reaction to the condom – would you agree?  Since then I have been very safe whenever I have had sex and haven’t had any of the same symptoms since.  However I have noticed a slight discoloration on the head of my penis – purple blotches; it is subtle and may have existed before the dry skin skin condition but I have only noticed in the last six months.  There is no itching or other irritation.  Do you think this is anything to be worried about?

Thanks for taking my question.

No, I wouldn't worry.  I agree it sounds most like some sort of chemical irritation, not like any STD.  See a health care provider if the symptoms worsen again or recur.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
