Bowel Problems After Unprotected Sex

Hello,

I had an unprotected sexual encounter a little over a year ago which included vaginal sex in a pool, shower and bed for well over an hour and oral sex.  I developed flu-like symptoms within 48 hours of the incident.  The symptoms included diarrhea, night sweats and mild nausea.  Once those subsided I developed bloating in my stomach and what seemed like constipation and slow digestion.  There was also a period of time with watery stools that were yellow/orange and a mucous discharged during the early stages following the initial bout of diarrhea. They weren't loose, they were like a combination of a movement with liquid.

None of the symptoms you describe either in the initial question or the follow-up comments below are due to any STD.  Even the initial flu-like symptoms could not have been due to STD, none of which can cause such symptoms in 48 hours.  It is possible you caught some sort of garden-variety virus, whether caught from your sex partner or someone else at about that time.   Otherwise, I do not believe your ongoing gastrointestinal symptoms have anything to do at all with the sexual encounters you describe.  They are most suggestive of irritablle bowel syndrome or other primary gastrointestinal problem, but definitely not an STD--and on this forum I do not speculate about non STD explanations.

You're not likely to ever find a definitive answer by online searching.  But if you have not done so, you might see what you can find about IBS.  But regardless of what else you can find online, if your symptoms persist, ultimately you're going to need to see a health care provider, insurance or not.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Once that settled down I developed very thin stools that were pinky sized and never felt like I had fully emptied.  The constipation like symptom along with a dull ache in the lower left quadrant of my back and the feeling on incompletion has continued since.  I had sex with another girl about three days after the initial encounter and she experienced a similar phenomenon.  We now live together and have been dealing with bowel problems for the last year.  We can function with moderate normality if we take probiotics, but once they are stopped the issues return.  Neither one of us had any issues with our bowels prior to this incident and had a clear medical history.  I have researched and cannot find many std's which coincide with these symptoms, but the ones that do come up are Hepatitis and HIV.  This isn't a question about HIV, so please don't scold me for posting here...lol.

I have scoured the message boards for anything similar to this on MedHelp and have been unsuccessful.  Are there any STD's which can cause little symptoms other than messing with you bowels and are there any other communicable ailments which can cause this sort of reaction for such a prolonged period of time.  It has to be more than a coincidence that we both started having the same problems after my sexual encounter.

We do not have health insurance and worry that going to the doctor could be very expensive if this is a major std or other medical condition.

Thank you in advance for your help.

And a side note:
There was one instance were my stomach was so bloated that I had a simultaneous combination of diarrhea and vomiting for 6 full hours (I thought I was going to die).
