Chalmydia / Prostattis / UTI, please help very concerned

by Jonathan323, Feb 09, 2009 04:04PM
Hello,

I am experiecing a very strange symptom, have had STD tests, and am absolutely baffled and very concerned .
After intercourse or masterbation (masturbation), I have a clear stcky discharge, that sometimes lasts up to or over an hour.  I have been tested for all STD's , negative, two tests and all blood work, had a prostrate exam with no inflammation noted, and am begining to wonder if I had a false negative STD test, I was on Keflex I believe or had just finished with a course of it when I took the test, so I am wondering if that would effect the results of a NAAT. I also have been diagnosed with a left sided vericocele, so could that be causing a delay in semen that would explain the leakage, or should I re test or consider a swab test, or I am worrying for nothing, is it normal to have discharge of this nature after ejaculating ????  Urine samples were negative for bacteria. So I am thinking maybe NSU, or Prostatits, but would the protrate be inflammed ? Or could this be clamydia (chlamydia), it otherwise does not oocur spontainously, i do not wake up with discharge, no pain on urination, What does anyone think, would love a Dr's reply.

I had an ex-girlfriend that was Dx with Chlamydia, went to my PCP the day after I was told, I was given antibiotics and a NAAT, mine came back clean, this was in late 2006, I am currently on cipro i took it for 2 days and then stopped because I want to retest, can i still get an accurate result , ot should I wait 2 weeks before retest. Lastly, if she was positive, why was mine negative ????

There are several questions here and I am not sure how they relate to one another.  Starting with the last question first.  Ciprofloxacin can affect your tests and mask infection, particularly chlamydial infection if present. Furthermore, if  you are being treated with ciprofloxacin for a possible chlamydial infection, it may be the wrong medication.  Ciprofloxacin is NOT recommended for chlamydial treatment although many related medications are.  It would be best to wait two weeks until you are tested.

Regarding what your refer to as your “strange symptom”.  Many men will have genital secretions which can be detected following ejaculation, whether or not this is ejaculation resulting from masturbation or from sexual intercourse.  If your discharge has been tested and does not contain increased white blood cells or pathogens such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, you do not need to worry about it.

Hope this helps.  EWH

Thanks , I apperciate your time, I was actually given the cipro because my MD is thinkng a prostrate infection, I just stoppped taking it because I want to retest for Chlamydia Asap, the first test I took that came back negative which was in sept 08, I was on Keflex, due to a pilonidal cyst that is now removed, but I was unaware that the Keflex could effect the NAAT, but I did also have a urinalysis prior to the STD test that yielded no WBC's. Hope that clarifies, however, I gather I will need to retest in 2 weeks and I will discuss this with my Doc, he should be calling me today or tommorow. Thanks.

We may have gotten our wires crossed on this.  You have no reason to worry about chlamydia.  On the other hand, if your doctor thinks that you have prostatitis, ciprofloxacin is good therapy for prostatitis (prostatitis is not caused by chlamydia).

If you had chlamydia, which is unlikely, cipro however could mask its presence.

Hope this clarifies things.  EWH

Yes thanks Doc, I actually spoke with my Doc tonight, he said that even with the Keflex, the chlamydia would have shown up (as chlamydia is not treated with keflex) , he thinks it is prostatitis or maybe a UTI, I have just been through so much recently, and the pilonidal surgery was no fun whatsoever, had to go through 2 surgeons before I found one I was comfortable with. Well I will continue with the Cipro, thanks alot Dr. Hook. I hope this resolves things for me. Very frustrating indeed.

Just a follow up, Chlamydia test ended up yielding negative results, thankfully. Looks like it's just a minor prostrate infection. Thanks Doc.
