Chances of an STI??

by Starlite09, Nov 07, 2009 09:04AM
Hi! I am a 19 year old girl. I have only ever had sex with one guy - my current boyfriend. We've been sexually active for a year and a half now. At first we used condoms but he told me he had always used condoms with other partners, so when i started the pill i was happy for us to stop using condoms.
I have since found out that there were at least two previous experiences in his life where condoms were not involved. i feel worried as I felt safe and now obviously that's gone. I have no symptoms that seem totally enexplainable or out of the ordinary.
What's the chances I have an STI? I'm shy and would be nervous about getting checked but i know some infections show few or no symptoms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have any pain during sex? It is true that some STD's have little or no side symptoms but you will have pain. I was diagnosed with chlymidia in Jan. Went to the doctor and got treated in March i went to have a cyst removed from my ovary because it hurt to have sex and when I spoke to my doctor he said the infection was so bad ( thought it got cleared up in Jan) that they had to scrape it all out. Do yourself and your partner a favor and get checked any way. It can be embarrassing but it could also save your life.

I have no pain but I do get regular yeast infections which i could be mistaking as i treat myself but i dont think so because it only happens when i'm taking antibiotics and also some tummy cramps but I assume they're due to ovulation and menstruation.

I'm very shy and would be really wary of and privacy invading tests. I've asked my boyfriend to get tested instead so i know i'm safe. He's not particularly keen on it as he doesn't really see much danger although he understands my fears.

I hope i'm not asking too much but what was involved in the test? I have tried to find out about sti testing but havent found anything concrete.
If anyone can tell me what testing for all the stds involves that would be really helpful. Are they invasive or uncomfortable? Is testing the same for men?

Testing involves peeing into a cup and giving some blood. If you are going to have unprotected sex then you should be prepared to have STD tests. You can not guarantee that your bf does not have a STD before you. Chances are that he didn't and chances are you don't but like I said if your going to make the choice to have unprotected sex then you should be prepared for testing to go with it.

Thanks for telling me whats involved!
I'm aware that i have to be prepared for testing or the risk of stds etc if i have unprotected sex but i made my decision thinking my boyfriend had always used protection before me. It's finding this out that is making me nervous. Thanks again!

Finding out and getting treatment is a lot better then not knowing and possibly causing further damage.
