Chlamdyia right or wrong diagnosis.

by nerdam, Mar 25, 2005 12:00AM
Recently my girlfriend 22yrs who has been having period pains since her puberty visited a doctor for the same, who did an Ultrasound on her and no other test, and based on the ultrasound report the doctor said you have a 6cm mark on ur uterine wall and looks like an infection, and from her experience she claimed it was chlamdiya and gave antibiotics for it,my gf has to re-check in another 4 weeks, also her uterus seemed mildly bulbous

History:
We havent seen each other in the last 18 months(aug03-present) longdistance.

Mine:Before i met my gf in jan2003 i had 2sexual encounters, one with a sex worker and was tested postive(pap smear) for gonnorehea and got adequate treatment HIV was negative too.the other with a virgin.hence i was potentialy clean when i  met her(dont know about chlamdyia).
Operation for urethal kink and hence i have to do dialation on and off using a cathater.

Her: She was raped when she was 8-9 years over a period of 3 months,
she had Protected sex with her last bf when 18 yrs
she had on and off unprotected sex over a period of 6 months with me.

Q1) Is the method of diagnosis correct? coz i wasnt happy as it was done in india and ultrasound and chlamdyia???

Q2) If it is a longtime chlamdyia infection how long could it have been in her to cause just uterine scars?

Q3)She has been honest to me in the last 18 months of seperation hence could i have been carrying it since my sex encounter back in 1997 and passed on in 2003?.

i appologize for such a long email , but your help is highly desired and appreciated.
Thanks
AP

India is a sophisticated country, medically speaking--but chlamydia can't be accurately diagnosed by ultrasound.  I can't say your girlfriend didn't have chlamydia, but there is no way for the doctor to know that without doing a specific chlamydia test.  I'm not a gynecologist or an ultrasound expert, and can't comment about what might cause the abnormality that was seen.

Chlamydia usually clears up on its own within several months, but sometimes can persist up to 4 years without treatment.  Whether it might occasionally stick around longer than that isn't known.

I doubt you are infected with chlamydia.  But to be safest, both you and your partner should see a provider who understands chlamydia and can do proper testing on both ofyou.

Good luck-- HHH, MD
