Chlamydia, false negative test result, or latency, or what?

by emilysong, May 01, 2007 12:00AM
I recently was tested positive with Chlamydia and got treated. My current boyfriend A was tested positive as well, and treated. But he swore he did not have sex with other women since we started having sex 10 months ago.

So I started thinking. About three months into my relationship with A, my ex bf TD was tested positive with Chlamydia and told me to get tested. My test result #1 came back negative. A month later, TD said his current partner was tested positive with Gonorrhea, and he said both him and me should get tested again. I went and the result #2 was negative again. So was his. And I learned actually usually if you go for a Chlamydia test, they test you for Gonorrhea as well.

But two months ago, I was tested #3 positive with Chlamydia. My current boyfriend did  go on a long trip overseas, and it was after he came back and had sex with me many times before I was tested positive. He insisted on only having had sex with me. I wanted to believe him. So my only guess is, could it be possible that during both test #1 and #2 I actually had Chlamydia and the tests were false negative. Or there was a latent period after I got affected, and only after certain time, the test can find out I was positive?

Or I am just lying to myself because I don't want to believe my current bf A had slept with someone during his trip overseas?

Please shed some light!

Confused,
Emily

Chlamydia is very hard to detect in females. I would say it is detected 35 pecent of the time in positive cases.

Chlamydia isn't hard to find in women, and the testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia is done together.

If you had negative tests before, then this is a new infection for you.  Unless you have been with someone else, that means you have become infected by your current bf.

You had both gonorrhea and chlamydia?

Maybe one of you had a false test result.  In any case, both of you should be treated for whatever you tested positive for.

You are probably lying to yourself. He's probably scared to tell you that he has cheated on you while he was overseas. I know it was hard for me to tell my BF that I contracted chlamydia because I had cheated on him in the first part of our relationship.  Since I known that had taken place I made sure we used condoms everytime we have sex. Even though that was four months ago the truth still came out even though I tried to hide it. Remember what's did in the dark will always come to light
