Chlamydia Sympton reappearing a month and a half after treatment

About a month and a half ago I tested positive for Chlamydia after experiencing itching on the tip of my penis and burning while urinating. I also had a clear sometimes milky discharge. The clinic that I went to gave me 1gram of Azithromycin and I was sent on my way. Within 2 days all my symptoms cleared up and I felt like everything was normal. Fast forward to now and once again I have a clear/milky discharge. I have no itching this time and when I urinate it only burns a little sometimes, but no where near the pain I experienced a month ago. I also am experiencing some uncomfortable feelings in my testicles and lower abdomen. My testicles do not appear swollen and do not really hurt when I touch them. I am quite confused as to why these symptoms have reappeared if I have not engaged in any sexual activity since I was treated. I was told that the Azithromycin was very effective in treating Chlamydia. I am going back this week to get retested. So basically I was wondering if I do test positive would I have to take another round of Azithromycin? Or should I ask them for Doxycycline? Also if the test comes back negative could I still be given another round of antibiotics for the symptoms? Thanks

Update: So after convincing myself it was a UTI(which is very rare for a 25yo male), I finally saw my doctor yesterday. They ran tests on me including bloodwork and sure enough I tested positive for chlamydia AGAIN even though I havent engaged in any sexual activity since I was treated the first time. So they gave me a shot of Rocephin and I believe 2 grams of Flagyl on the spot. I also was prescribed a 7 day course of Doxy. Doctor said that this regimen would guarantee the chlamydia and anything else to get killed off. Im a little worried putting my body through such a heavy course of antibiotics but just glad Im getting proper treatment for my stupid mistake...

Azithrimycin is effective therefore I would think that maybe something else was allowed to take root in the Chlamydia’s place?  If this isn’t the case then the Azithromycin did not in fact eradicate the infection and, as you suggest the doctor may want to use a different antibiotic like Doxy.  I would suggest that you keep a journal, drink plenty of water, jot down these questions and others you think of and show up to your next appointment prepared to get answers.  You may still be given antibiotics due to your symptoms and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Doxy was what was ordered.  It’s sort of a scorched-earth antibiotic that is still pretty effective.

Thanks for your reply. My appointment isnt until this friday 6/10. Im starting to suspect I have a UTI. I know its not very common for males and especially my age(25), but the burning sensation and lower abdominal discomfort/pain  kind of leads me to that. My urine has a funny smell to it as well. So hopefully I get it figured out
