Chlamydia test

Chlamydia test

hey dr. HHH!!!  thank you in advance!! here is my situation:
i had brief (2 minutes or less) unprotected insertive vaginal sex with a masage parlor women (she is of unknown std status) in the usa.  after 14 days i had the full range of std tests done (at a state clinic) and all results were negative!!!
i then had a urologist appointment 1 week after my std tests. the urologist found no wbc in my urine and said everything was fine with my urine...with no signs of infection.
my prostate however was said to be boggy.
the chlamydia test was a "dna probe test"  (i pee'd in a cup)
my specific questions are:
1.  is a dna probe test relaible?
2.  coupled with the lack of wbc in my urine 3 weeks after my possilbe exposure...there should be no or slim to no chance of a false neg?
before my std tests i was symptom free. i got tested for peice of mind.
after my neg results...i started having major urinary frequency and a strange sensation between my bum and my scrotum. that is why i went to the urologist.  it still continues to this day (8 months after the incident)
i know how you feel about prostitis and uroligists...(the whole wastebasket thing).
3.  is it possilbe that the urinary issues have absolutly nothing to do with any form of std and that my urinary issues are a result of the stress, guilt, and anxioty that this situation has caused?
4.even though 8 months after i still have flare ups????? does that seem normal? thank you for your responce..concerned in ct

The exposure you describe was low risk, given the brevity of exposure; testing probably wasn't necessary at all.  But to your questions:

1) Most likely you had a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) such as Amplicor (Roche), Probe-Tec (BD Diagnostics), or Aptima (Gen-Probe company).  (The older test 'probe test' cannot be done on urine, but your doc may not know exactly what test the lab does.)  All the NAATs are extremely accurate, and you can be certain you didn't catch chlamydia.

2) Urine WBC testing is unreliable as an indicator of chlamydia.  That result doesn't provide a clue one way or the other.

3) It is not only 'possible' that your urinary symptoms have nothing to do with the sexual exposure you describe.  It is virtually certain that they have nothing to do with it.  And indeed, stress and anxiety probably are the most common cause of the symptoms you describe.

4) Chlamydia doesn't behave in this way, with such recurring symptoms for 8 months.  You probably have the male pelvic pain syndrome, which is uncomfortable but harmless.  You should discuss that possibility with your doctor.  For more information, see http://www.medhelp.org/forums/STD/messages/4441.html.  That thread has URLs for other STD Forum discussions and to another website with more information.

Good luck---  HHH, MD

dr. HHH...thankyou for your quick response...i just have a quick follow up for you.

assuming that what i now experience is cpps..that was caused by my own stesses and anxioty..can i assume that this condition will ever go away.
i was once extremely stressed about my unprotected experience...and i assume that is was brought on my urinary symptoms. however, i am long over the issue(meaning i dont stess about it anymore), yet my urinary  symptoms remain.

i guess my question is...do u think/know if this kind of thing ever goes away?
thank you and i consider my $15 donation money well spent.

Try testing for antibiotic resistant staph.  This is tricky.  You have to use anaerobic media for the test, even though the organism is aerobic.  clean yourself well with betadyne and alcohol - otherwise the lab will call it 'contamination'.  obtain sample by prostate massage, and ask for culture and sensitivity.
